🧹 How to Make Household Chores Easier to Get it Done!
🧹 How to Make Household Chores Easier to Get it Done!
Let’s be honest… nobody wakes up thinking, “I can’t wait to scrub the toilet today!” 😂
Household chores are one of those things that somehow multiply when we aren't looking. You clean the kitchen, turn around, and suddenly there are dishes in the sink again. You do laundry, and five minutes later someone needs a clean towel.
But what if we stopped thinking of chores as chores and started making them a little more FUN?
Here are some ways to turn your daily cleaning routine into something you might actually enjoy.
🎶 1. Turn Up the Music
Cleaning with music is a completely different experience.
Put on your favorite playlist and pretend you're starring in your own music video. Grab that mop like it's a microphone!
Pick music from your younger years and see how much faster you clean when you're singing along.
Bonus: Dancing while vacuuming absolutely counts as exercise. 😉💃
☕ 2. Make Yourself a Reward Drink
Before you start, make yourself a cup of coffee, tea, or your favorite drink.
Tell yourself:
"I can have this while I tackle the kitchen."
Suddenly, cleaning doesn't seem quite so terrible.
And if you're like me, coffee makes just about everything better!
⏰ 3. Race the Clock
Set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes.
Pick one area and see how much you can accomplish before the timer goes off.
You might be surprised by how much you can get done when you know there's an end in sight.
When the timer rings, STOP!
You've earned a break.
🧺 4. Make Laundry a Game
Laundry doesn't have to be boring.
Challenge yourself to see how quickly you can fold one basket.
Or put on a favorite TV show and fold laundry while watching it.
And if matching socks feels like a personal attack from the universe…
Throw them in a basket and deal with them later. 😂
🧽 5. Listen While You Clean
Use chore time to catch up on things you actually enjoy.
Listen to:
🎧 Podcasts
🎧 Audiobooks
🎧 Your favorite music
🎧 A motivational video
🎧 A comedy special
Cleaning gives your hands something to do while your brain gets entertained.
That's multitasking!
👯 6. Make It a Social Event
If you live with someone else, turn chores into teamwork.
Put on music, divide up the jobs, and get it done together.
If you have a friend who also needs to clean, try a virtual cleaning date.
Put your phones on speaker, chat while you clean, and keep each other motivated.
You don't have to clean alone!
🏆 7. Give Yourself Points
Make your own silly chore reward system.
Clean the bathroom? 10 points.
Vacuum? 10 points.
Clean out the refrigerator? 25 points!
Finally tackle that junk drawer?
50 bonus points because THAT is a serious accomplishment. 😂
Decide what your points are worth.
Maybe 100 points earns you a coffee run, an afternoon of relaxing, or an episode of your favorite show.
👑 8. Dress for the Job
Who says you can't clean in something fabulous?
Put on your favorite leggings, a funny T-shirt, a cute headband, or even an apron.
Sometimes simply changing into your "cleaning outfit" tells your brain:
Okay, let's get this done!
🕵️♀️ 9. Play "What's Hiding in Here?"
This one is especially fun when cleaning clutter.
Pick one drawer, closet, cabinet, or corner.
You never know what you'll discover.
"Oh look! I've been looking for these scissors for three years!" 😂
Have a donate pile, trash pile, and keep pile nearby.
You might even turn cleaning into a treasure hunt.
📸 10. Take a Before-and-After Picture
This one is surprisingly satisfying.
Take a picture before you clean.
Then take another one afterward.
Sometimes seeing the difference is the motivation we need to keep going.
And if you accomplish something REALLY impressive, show it off!
You earned that bragging right. 👏
🛋️ 11. Don't Forget the Best Part
The best part of cleaning isn't the cleaning.
It's sitting down afterward and enjoying the results.
Put your feet up.
Grab your coffee.
Watch your favorite show.
Enjoy that clean kitchen, sparkling bathroom, or freshly organized room.
You earned it!
Remember: Your House Doesn't Have to Be Perfect
Especially as we get older, we sometimes need to remind ourselves that our homes are meant to be lived in, not displayed in a magazine.
There will always be another load of laundry.
Another sink full of dishes.
Another dusty shelf.
Another mystery pile that somehow appeared on the counter.
That's life!
So turn on the music, make yourself a coffee, laugh at the mess, and tackle one little thing at a time.
Because cleaning doesn't have to be miserable.
Make it fun. Make it yours. And don't forget to reward yourself! ❤️
Now tell me…
🧹 What's the ONE household chore you would happily pay someone else to do forever? 😂
