Easy DIY Fire Starters

Image
We love our fire pit and use it year-round. My husband has become a great fire starter but we found out that having a little help makes it less work to get the fire going.  I’ve been making these fire starter rolls for a couple of years now and they’re super easy and cost little to nothing to make.  Materials you need: Cardboard tubes Dryer Lint Cookie Tin Candles Wax paper Empty can or a wax pouring pot Essential oils, if you desire Pan with water Potholder Instructions : Create a double boiler by placing the empty can or pot in the pan with water. Make sure the can is clean and dry. Place the candle into the can/pot. Heat the water to melt the candle wax. Drop a few drops of essential oils in the hot wax and stir. (Below are some essential oils you may use if you would like to keep the mosquitos away.) Line the bottom of the tin with wax paper. Stand the cardboard tubes up on the end in the cookie tin.   Stuff some lint into each tube. Leave a bit of room to tuck the wa...

Essential Oil Blend For Menstrual Cramps

Image
I confess that I'm WAY past the childbearing years but our daughters are in that time of life. I do remember having menstrual pain and taking meds for relief but I wished I had a more natural way to help me. My daughter's time of the month is excruciatingly painful and it really keeps her down from living a fulfilled life. So I did a little research to try and help her and found this EO blend that she could rub on her abdomen. Just maybe it would help. Sure enough, she said it cut the time she was in pain by half. I thought that was good news and had to share it with those that may need some help. Here are some of  the oils that help with menstrual cramps: Cinnamon Oil Clove oil Lavender oil Rose Oil Let's take a closer look at why these oils are a benefit. CINNAMON OIL - Cinnamon is already known as an effective, anti-inflammatory spice. So, it’s no surprise that cinnamon oil also fights inflammation and reduces menstrual pain.  In fact, a 2013 study looked at the effect...

De-skunking Our Dog and Home

Image
***UPDATED 9/2/23*** Recently my dog had an encounter with a skunk. YES, a skunk. He went out for his 5 a.m. morning pee break and came back in before we knew he was sprayed by a skunk and headed directly to our grandson's room, luckily our grandson wasn't in there and rubbed his face all over his bed. Not knowing that my husband was dealing with this, he decided to wake me up after he had already given him his first bath. We bathed him 3 times that morning and took him to the groomers mid-afternoon.  For the second bath, I did a little research on what to bathe him in and found a homemade solution from The Prairie Homestead , which worked a bit but didn't do the trick that I would have liked. Here's the recipe if you are interested in DIY: 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide  (this is the kind you find in the first aid section of your average grocery store. It’s very cheap.) 1/4 cup baking soda 1-2 drops of liquid dish soap  (optional) 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil...

DIY Bath Steamers - Cathy tries and fails!

Image
I wanted to try the DIY Bath Steamers from the Hallmark Channel Home and Family . I tried and failed.😏 But I had fun trying and will try again. You live and learn by failing, right?? Here's the materials list and directions if you'd like to take a stab at making these cute bath steamers: MATERIALS 2 cups baking soda 1 cup citric acid 1 cup cornstarch 3-5 tbsp water Essential oils - whatever you like Silicone baking/soap molds For a cold/flu symptoms - 80 drops of eucalyptus oi l and 40 drops of peppermint oil For a soothing shower - 80 drops of lavendar oil & 40 drops of geranium oil INSTRUCTIONS Place the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch in a large bowl. Use a pastry cutter or large whisk to remove lumps and mix well. Add the water SLOWLY, 1 tbsp at a time. You have to be very careful because if you add too much water too soon, the whole thing will fizz up. Just be patient and keep testing by grabbing a handful of the mixture and squeezing it...

Walmart Fall Beauty Box Unboxing 2019-20

Image
Hey everyone! It's been a few weeks since we last posted. We are going to TRY to be more consistent with Monday being the day we push out our blog posts. So on that note, we are going to be chatting about the Walmart Fall Beauty Box.  Kelly has a few box subscriptions and Walmart Beauty Box is one of them. It is a quarterly box and costs $5 which includes shipping. It's suppose to be the FALL beauty box but she received it in the mail in December, which was a little annoying because fall is over and winters begins.  The box usually includes a full size product but most of the products are sample or travel size. The first thing you see when you open the box is a square white paper giving you a little insight on what you can expect in the box "FALL FAVES". On the other side of the paper they give you the opportunity to enter to win a $100 gift card if you take a survey on the box. It's worth a try, who doesn't want to win $100? We opened the tis...
