Irish Grilled Cheese Sandwich Taste Test Review

Recently, on our latest Facebook Live show, we tried some Irish foods because it happened to be St. Patrick's Day. Not only that, we like to eat 😉

The recipe came from the Food Network

Irish Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • White Bread
  • Butter
  • Parsley, chopped
  • Scallions, chopped
  • Chives, chopped
  • Irish Cheddar Cheese
  • Bread and butter pick

Don't forget the bread!

Instructions for 2 sandwiches
  1. Mash 4 tablespoons softened butter with 2 tablespoons each chopped parsley, scallions, and chives.
  2. Spread the mixture on 4 slices of white bread and top each with sliced Irish cheddar cheese and bread/butter pickles
  3. cover with 4 more bread slices.
  4. Spread plain butter on the outside of the sandwiches and fry in a skillet until golden on both sides.
  5. Spread the remaining herb butter on the warm sandwiches.
  6. Slice into quarters, then press the cut sides in more chopped herbs.

If you would like to see what we thought, take a look at our video from the day we were trying out all that great Irish food. The grilled cheese sandwich part starts around 7:45.

Six Make Ahead Freezer Meals

Do you like to save time and money? Make-ahead freezer meals save time and money. I typically make a meal for the three of us and freeze the leftovers. It's always a great idea to have a few meals in the freezer for those busy days.

I recommend making extra of every meal during a full week, then you will have a full week of dinners in a pinch.

Prepping freezer meals starts with buying enough ingredients to make at least two family meals at once.

Use nonporous containers like glass dishes, freezer bags, and those foil pans you can get 2 for $1.25 at the Dollar Tree to store your meals. Most of these recipes are delicious for up to four months.

This dish is not only simple and delicious, but it's also budget-friendly when you use flavor-packed chicken drumsticks. Make sure to thaw this freezer meal in the fridge the night before to speed up oven cooking time.

  • Chicken Fajita Freezer Dinner Packets

Create a southwestern marinade for chicken, chop up some onions and bell peppers, and package ingredients individually for a fajita kit. I need to make this one!

  • Easy Taco Casserole Freezer Meal

This recipe you can serve with a salad, tortilla chips, or even tortillas to make a burrito.

  • Easy Make-Ahead Freezer Meal Meatloaf

Make a few loaves at a time, and when you’re ready to indulge, just pop a pan in the oven.

I have done this before especially when the recipe calls for 2 pounds of meat. I

split it in half and freeze one. Easy peasy!

  • Tuscan Pasta Make-Ahead Freezer Meal

When making this into a freezer meal – put the noodles, sauce, and chicken into two 9×9 foil tins. Wait until it cools down a little, place foil on top, and stick in the freezer. To cook when frozen: Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until heated through. To cook when frozen but then thawed: Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through.

Get the recipe here.

  • Make-Ahead Stromboli Kit Freezer Meal

Who needs takeout pizza when you can make your own Stromboli in minutes. Just prep all your ingredients and dough, freeze and assemble just before baking.

When It's Time to Toss Those Household Items

Have you ever wondered when is the best time to toss those good old household items that you use day-to-day? As I was researching, I found ten items that should be tossed on a regular basis. I’m sure there are more but let’s start small 😉

1. Sponges - I love a good kitchen sponge, but did you know it doesn’t take long for sponges to become a hotbed of bacteria. They can spread germs to your hands and then to your food. Or if you have a cut on your hand, bacteria can enter your body that way. Even if you boil or microwave your sponges after each use, scientists say it’s best to replace them once a week.

2. Pillows -  Your beloved pillow loses shape and firmness over time. It also absorbs the sweat, oil, and skin cells you shed while you sleep. Trade-in old pillows for new ones every 2 years -- sooner if they’re flat, lumpy, or stay folded after you bend them in half. I wash and dry pillows a couple of times before it’s time to throw them away.

3. Toothbrush
Twice-a-day scrubbing sessions really do in your toothbrush’s bristles over time. For best cleaning results, switch to a new one every 3 to 4 months. A lot of toothbrushes come with that blue stripe that is a great indicator when it's time to throw it away.

4. Non-Stick Cookware Nonstick pots and pans with scratches, grooves, or flaking polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) should be on your kitchenware move list. Luckily, Teflon flakes won’t hurt you if they get in your food. Still, they're a sign you’re due for something new. I just purchased a few new pieces to replace the scratched ones. I love new cookware, how about you?

5. Makeup While products vary, a good rule of thumb is to restock cosmetics around the 6-month mark to keep bacteria at bay. Always replace makeup after you’ve used it on infected skin or eyes. This one I'm not good at all, I go through my makeup once a year and throw the oldest away.

6. Makeup brushes - Here's another one that I don't do enough and should. Wash applicators regularly with warm water and mild soap to keep them clean enough to use for a good while. Follow this schedule: once a week for tools that apply wet makeup; twice a week for eye makeup applicators. Brushes for dry makeup can go a month between cleaning. Toss them once they look frayed or worn.

7. MedicationsManufacturers are required to put expiration dates on their meds. Some studies show they work much longer than their stamped shelf life, but the best option is to keep your medicine cabinet contents current. Most expired medications will lose strength over time. When you toss drugs, be responsible: The FDA’s website can give you guidelines for what to trash, what to flush, and where to look for take-back options in your area.

8. Contact Lens Case -To keep your contact case clean, rinse it with fresh saline solution, not water, after each use. Chuck it for a fresh one every 3 months. Cracked or damaged cases make a great home for bacteria, so replace them right away.

9. ElectronicsReady to get rid of your computer, TV, cellphone, or other gadgets? Do it right: Check with the manufacturer first to see if they have a recycling or donation program. Or call your local recycling center so your gadgets don’t end up in a landfill.

10. Extension CordsAny sign of wear on an extension cord means it’s time to throw it out. Cracks, damage, or problems with the plug or prongs can be a fire hazard. Inspect cords before use, and don’t run one under a rug or overload it with too many appliances.

WebMD for these guidelines.
