My Trip to Lake Havasu City, Arizona 2021

One of the stops during our trip to Arizona this year was a placed called Lake Havasu City.  Our Mom loves to visit there and a matter of fact goes there every year.  I can’t say that I blame her.  It was pretty quiet when Leroy, Mom and I were there earlier this year.  Of course, we were not there in top tourist season.

We stayed at The Nautical Beachfront Resort.  The room faced the beautiful  lake. Some days there was plenty to watch, people on jet skis and small boats. It was a little too cool for swimming.

These were some of the decorative walls at the resort where we stayed.

The moon shown bright at night.  I couldn’t resist getting the picture of the palm trees in the moon light.

There are replica light houses from all over.  This one, which is one of many, is a replica of a lighthouse on Lake Superior.  You can boat around the lake or drive around to see them. Many people travel around the town and lake in four wheel drive buggies.

To get to the resort you have to cross The London Bridge. It was given to the Governor of Arizona in 1968.  It is interesting to see.  You can walk the bridge on top and underneath.

There are lots of different locks attached to the bridge.  You can tell some are really old.

There is a small area around the bridge where you can walk with shops and eating places. You can rent boats and jet skis or take a boat ride around the beautiful lake.  There are some museums there too, but when we were there, they were closed due to COVID.  There are about 53,000 people who live there full time according to the 2010 census.  People also park their RVs in the outskirts of the city.  Lake Havasu is a tourist destination for those who love to be on the water.

Lake Havasu City is a great place to visit.  They do have an airport nearby if you are a jetsetter.

We had a good couple of days there.  I highly recommend it for some water fun or just some slow down time.

Have you visited Lake Havasu? We'd love to hear from you and your experiences.

Travels from the middle sister,

Rhonda

Trip on the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Arizona

My trip to Arizona earlier this year included a trip to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  It was decided that we would take a day trip which included a train ride to the Grand Canyon.

We stayed the night in Williams, Arizona.  It is a very small town about an hour outside of Flagstaff.   It seemed to consist of two main streets.  On one street there is the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel.  You can stay at the hotel, but there are other hotels available to stay in as well.  My husband, Mom, and I stayed at one of the other hotels.

The next morning, we boarded the train to the Grand Canyon.  It is a day trip to and from the Grand Canyon.  There are various train cars to choose from.  The cars go from basic to luxurious and the price varies depending on which car you choose.

There is an attendant in each car to answer questions and tell some of the histories.  The trip also has musicians and cowboys.
It’s fun for the whole family.
Our attendant was very sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Yes, there were cowboys on the train.  Fun to be had by the whole family. Our attendant said that the children in the family car behind us were throwing dollars at the robbers.

So if you don’t want to drive to the Grand Canyon yourself, this train ride is very relaxing.  I would especially recommend it if you have children.

Take care, Rhonda (the middle sister).

A Visit to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix Arizona

**UPDATED 3/31/23**

My husband and I made a trip to Arizona late February and early March to visit my Mom in Mesa, Arizona.  One of the places we got to explore was the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.  The garden was not in full bloom, but it was nice just the same.  I think we were about a month too early.

There were plenty of cacti to see and several that happened to have blooms on them.   There were some beautiful flowers in bloom.  One of the exhibits in the garden is called The Bee Garden.  Here are some of the flowers that were in bloom.  And yes the bees were doing their thing.

This is called the Ironwood Tree.  It stands 20 feet tall.  Quite impressive in person.

Jeff Hebets is the artist.  He made this in honor of his cousin, Phil who originated a tree boxing methodology that enabled over a million native plants to be salvaged instead of bulldozed.

As you can see it is a beautiful place.  There was a lot of walking and the sun does get hot quickly in Arizona.  Leroy and I enjoyed it. The two of us took an abundance of pictures where ever we would go, over 500 pictures on our trip altogether.  Coming soon there will be more posts about the other places we visited in scenic Arizona.  Between catching up on work and helping out the grandbabies, I have been pretty busy.  Plus I have to take time to do our Sassy Silver Sister live once a month.

So until my next blog post, enjoy your time this spring.  Don’t forget to visit Sassy Silver Sisters on Facebook.

Take care, Rhonda (the middle sister).
