My Trip to the Grand Canyon

Image
In my last blog, I told you that my husband, Mom and I took the train to the Grand Canyon.  If you haven't seen that post, click here . Because of the time of year, we only went to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  We were able to spend a couple of hours touring.  There are fantastic views.  I have balance problems, so I did not get anywhere near close to the edge.  My husband did, so some of the pictures were taken by him.  The Grand Canyon is full of color.  Our pictures probably do not do it justice. My Mom and I safely standing back from the edge. My hubby, Leroy,  decides to stand right on the edge.  Oh my! Buckey’s Cabin is the only remaining building from the early pioneer settlement era of the Grand Canyon Village.  Built in 1895 by William Owen “Buckey” O’Neill. The adobe-style house is a store where you can buy items made by local artisans.  I scored a pair of earrings there. There are places to get something to eat and...

Restaurant Review of Grass Rootes in Culpeper Virginia

Image
***UPDATED 4/29/23*** Name of restaurant:  Grass Rootes in Culpeper Virginia Date of visit: April 23, 2021 Star rating:  ⭐ ⭐  ⭐ ⭐ out of 5 Grass Rootes is a farm-to-a-table dining experience in historic downtown Culpeper at the corner of East Davis Street and South East Street. According to their website, they are in the oldest commercial building in Culpeper and you can tell. You could be a little confused by the outside of the building as it touts the old-style hardware store it used to be once upon a time. They are open Wednesday through Saturday for lunch 11am-2:00pm and or dinner 5:30-9pm.  We parked around back in a lot behind the building. You can use the back stairs to go into the restaurant but we walked around the front of the building and used the main entrance. We arrived around 11:30am on a Friday and it wasn't busy, yet. When noon hit, the restaurant started filling up. Although it wasn't crowded, it was good to see these small restaurants feeding folks...

Trip on the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Arizona

Image
My trip to Arizona earlier this year included a trip to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  It was decided that we would take a day trip which included a train ride to the Grand Canyon.   We stayed the night in Williams, Arizona.   It is a very small town about an hour outside of Flagstaff.   It seemed to consist of  two main streets.   On one  street  there is the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel.  You can stay at the hotel, but there are other hotels available to stay in as well.  My husband, Mom, and I stayed at one of the other hotels.   The next morning, we boarded the train to the Grand Canyon.  It is a day trip to and from the Grand Canyon.  There are various train cars to choose from.  The cars go from basic to luxurious and the price varies depending on which car you choose.   www.thetrain.com There is an attendant in each car to answer questions and tell some of the histories.  The tri...
