Newport Aquarium Kentucky Trip Part 3

Image
On our last day in Kentucky, my husband and I went to the Newport Aquarium , located at 1 Levee Way, Newport, Kentucky.   It was fairly easy to get to the parking garage.   Then you can walk downtown or right by the entrance to the aquarium there are vendors and shops for different foods.            The aquarium is right on the river.   You can stroll along the river or cross this bridge into Cincinnati, Ohio.   The building has artwork and beautiful flowers along the riverside.    As you can imagine, there were lots to see inside the aquarium as well.    Fish, sharks, seahorses, octopus, crabs, lobsters, frogs, snakes, and on and on.   Lots to see for all ages. Upside down jellyfish and this octopus was on the move.                      It does not take all day for the aquarium.   So if you go, just drive around and see the sites.   Leroy and I enjoy doing that.   We had a great time in Kentucky.   I hope you get to go and experience some of the fun. Have you been to Newport Aquar

Too many potatoes, onions and milk? No worries!

Image
Cream of Potato Soup I was given potatoes, had extra onions and had a lot of milk to use up. So I decided to see which recipe would use these items up. Never made potato soup myself  because back in the day, no left over potatoes!  Ingredients 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced 1 cup water 2 tablespoons chopped onion 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 3 cups whole milk 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon celery salt Dash pepper Paprika and minced fresh parsley Instructions   Place the potatoes and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover and cook until tender; drain and set aside. In the same pan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in flour until blended. Gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat; add the potatoes, salt, celery salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until heated through. Sprinkle with parsley and paprika. I also, added a dash of garlic and a dash of herbs. Recipe

Cathy's Homemade Wrinkle Release Spray for Clothing

Image
***UPDATED 10/2/24*** Cathy's Homemade Wrinkle Release Spray for Clothing  I sell clothing online and sometimes they are extremely wrinkled. Plus, I use this for my own clothing. I have been using this recipe for about 3 years now and works great for me.  This is simple and inexpensive.   Recipe:        14 oz spray bottle        12 oz of water        1 tsp fabric softener        1 tsp alcohol   Instructions :   Mix all ingredients by shaking. Hang the clothing up on a hanger, I hang mine in the shower.   Spray generously on those stubborn wrinkles and stretch the fabric at the wrinkle to straighten.    Let dry overnight. So easy! I hope you will try this and save money because those wrinkle-release sprays purchased  in the store are expensive. Let us know if you have tried this recipe or have one of your own. Comment and share your thoughts.   Keep it sassy, Cathy+ ***************************************************************************** Thank you so much for taking the time t

Trip to Kentucky Part II - The Creation Museum

Image
After spending a day at the Ark Encounter, the next day my husband and I spent a day at The Creation Museum.  We had been there years ago but thought while we were in the neighborhood we would visit it again.  It is well worth a visit.  There is a deal on the tickets if you buy tickets to both venues together. ~ Ark and Creation Museum Combo The Creation Museum It opened May 28, 2007, and is located in Petersburg, Kentucky, just 40 miles from the Ark Encounter. This building is 75,000 square feet.  Lots of walking involved.  A good way to get those steps in.   It has beautiful grounds with lots of flowers, bridges, and statues. There are other activities as well such as zip-lining, an obstacle course, and a small zoo. There is something for all ages to see and do.  Of course, some of the activities have additional costs. Inside the museum, there is plenty to see as well.  Make sure you visit the Planetarium with no additional costs.  There is an abundance of dragon exhibits for tho

Trip to Kentucky Part 1 - Ark Encounter

Image
Recently my husband and I went to Kentucky.  Why Kentucky you may ask?  I would ask too.  There are several places to visit in Kentucky.  The first stop we made was in Williamstown, Kentucky.  There you will find The Ark Encounter .  It  is a  model of Noah’ s ark and it is massive.  I guess it had to be in order for all those animals to fit inside. Ark Encounter   It opened on July 7, 2016.  We have  been wanting  to visit ever since.  Now that attractions are starting to open, I thought it would be a good time to  go.  And sure enough, it was the perfect time to go.  It was not crowded at all.   This ark is a sight to behold.  It is massive.  You really cannot fathom how big until you are there in person.  As you can tell the landscaping is aweso me throughout the exhibit.  Just take a look at some of the landscaping art I saw. There is an abundance of beautiful flowers.  Inside the  ark  is built for easy access with ramps as you go through the several levels of the ark.  There are

Fall Date Ideas

Image
***UPDATED 8/30/24*** Jay and I try and take time to do something fun every week, whether be a lunch date, hike in the park, or shopping at Goodwill. Yes, I said Goodwill, we both like finding a good deal. When it comes to the Fall season, there can be some unique things to do. Here are a few of our favorite things to do and we hope you can take time with your loved one to reconnect and just have fun together.  The Pumpkin Patch - Typically we go to the pumpkin patch with our grandson but we have gone alone and had a great time. We have a favorite place called Snead's Farm and it's an awesome place to hang out. Find your favorite pumpkin patch.  Take a Drive to the Mountains - this is always a favorite thing to do for Jay and myself. Looking at the changing leaves is just a beautiful sight. You can't say there's no God when you look at His handiwork in creation. Skyline Drive Go for a Hike - This is a great time to talk and get some exercise. Sometimes it's hard

De-skunking Our Dog and Home

Image
***UPDATED 9/2/23*** Recently my dog had an encounter with a skunk. YES, a skunk. He went out for his 5 a.m. morning pee break and came back in before we knew he was sprayed by a skunk and headed directly to our grandson's room, luckily our grandson wasn't in there and rubbed his face all over his bed. Not knowing that my husband was dealing with this, he decided to wake me up after he had already given him his first bath. We bathed him 3 times that morning and took him to the groomers mid-afternoon.  For the second bath, I did a little research on what to bathe him in and found a homemade solution from The Prairie Homestead , which worked a bit but didn't do the trick that I would have liked. Here's the recipe if you are interested in DIY: 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide  (this is the kind you find in the first aid section of your average grocery store. It’s very cheap.) 1/4 cup baking soda 1-2 drops of liquid dish soap  (optional) 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil  (op
