Blueberry Jam Puff Pastry: A Sweet Treat for All

Have you ever tried a pastry that perfectly balances flakiness with sweetness? Using blueberry jam in puff pastry is a fantastic way to create a delicious dessert that will impress your family and friends. Let’s dive into the mouth-watering details of making this delightful treat!

How do you combine all these delicious ingredients into a perfect pastry? Here’s a simple guide to making blueberry jam-puff pastry.

Makes 9 pastries

Ingredients
  • 1 package of puff pastry (1 sheet)
  • 1/2 cup blueberry jam
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar or course sugar (optional, for serving)

 Instructions

  1. Thaw puff pastry dough, let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This will make it easier to roll out.
  2. Preheat the Oven to 400°F (200°C). A hot oven will give your pastry that perfect golden color.
  3. Once your puff pastry is soft and pliable, roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Aim for about a 12-inch square. If it’s not a perfect square, don’t worry! It’ll still taste delicious.
  4. Cut Into Squares. If you use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the rolled sheet into 9 equal squares. Each square will be a pocket for your blueberry goodness.
  5. Fill with a tablespoon of blueberry jam in the center of each square.
  6. Fold the corners of each square towards the center and pinch them to seal. Make sure it’s sealed tight so that the filling doesn't leak while baking.
  7. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over each puff pastry with a pastry brush. This will give them a lovely golden finish. If you use course sugar, this is the time to sprinkle it on.

  8. Place the filled pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicon pad, bake for 15-20 minutes. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t burn.
  9. Once golden brown, take them out and let them cool for a few minutes. If you are using powdered sugar, dust it on for that extra touch of sweetness before serving.

Tips for Success

- Thaw Properly: Make sure to let your puff pastry thaw completely. If it’s too cold, it won’t roll out properly.
- Don’t overstuff: Less is more when it comes to jam. If you add too much, the pastries can burst open while baking. Obviously, I didn't seal them well, do as I say not as I do :)
- Keep it Cool: If your kitchen is warm, consider placing the pastry in the fridge for a bit after assembling. This ensures the butter remains cold and helps with puffiness.

Blueberry jam puff pastry is delicious and easy to make. With just a few ingredients and steps, you'll create a treat that everyone will love.
