Continuing our journey on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we stopped at two other lighthouses and the first was Cape Hatteras Light Station.
In 1999, Cape Hatteras lighthouse was moved from its original location to
save it from going out to sea. For more information on the lighthouse click the link >>
Cape Hatteras National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) Currently the lighthouse is closed for restoration. The scaffolding is incredible to look at. Not only is there scaffolding outside but also inside the lighthouse.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Restoration Project - Cape Hatteras National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)The Park
Service is preserving two other buildings. The buildings are opened to the public where you will discover
the history of the lighthouse and how the lighthouse moved. I found the process of moving the lighthouse
fascinating. It was worth the stop.
On our way
back from Cape Hatteras we stopped at another location. This is the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
As we were traveling south on Highway 12, we saw Bodie Lighthouse when we were well past it.
But it was more visible on our way back to Kill Devil Hills.
I would like to tell you something about our visit, but as we got
there the thunder started and it was about to downpour. I quickly took a couple of pictures and left.
There was a
restroom down from the house. People were telling us the house was basically a gift shop. I would like to explore it further one
day.
We did get
to see some people windsurfing on our travels to Hatteras. I asked my husband to stop so we could watch
and take a few pictures. They were windsurfing on the sound side of HWY 12. It was fun to watch and see how many people were out there.
Of course, there was lots of good food on our travels.
I just don’t take pictures of the food.
Sorry.
We had a
good, relaxing time.
Have you traveled to Hatteras? If so, what was your favorite part of your trip? Comment below.
Keep it Sassy,
Rhonda, The
Middle Sister
