Corolla, North Carolina Outer Banks Sites to See Part 2
On our adventures in the OBX, we took a day and went to Corolla, North Carolina just north of Duck. Mileage-wise, it was not that far from where we were staying in Kill Devil Hills, but it took some time since the traffic was slow on the small road leading to Corolla. And there was road work being done in Duck.
Our first stop was the lighthouse. There is a museum (free to enter) and a gift shop. One can walk up the lighthouse, for a fee, but my hip was not having it since we had been to the Wright Brothers Memorial the day before. If you didn't get to read about our journey to the Wright Brothers Memorial, just click the link >> OBX Wright Brothers National Memorial Sites to See Part 1
Below is the other place we visited. This massive house is the Whalehead Club Historic Mansion. For a small fee, one can tour this house. They do not allow photography inside the house.
This house took years to build and was completed in
1925. It has been restored with period
pieces inside. Wear your walking
shoes. Although we didn't get to
see every square inch of this house, we did get to see quite a bit of it. Enough to make me tired.
The house is beautiful inside and out. The mahogany wood inside is to die for. I don’t know about you, but I find the way people lived back in the day fascinating. The original owners were very well-to-do.
The tour is conducted with tablets in various places
and the guide gets you from level to level, but is only with you during the time,
so you can take your time. The ladies
that were there were very nice. The tour
starts on the porch, with many rocking chairs, overlooking the water.
If you are up to the challenge of climbing and
walking, these places are a must-see.
They are both right next to each other, so once you get there, you can enjoy both sites.
Have you been to Corolla, NC? If so, have you visited any of the sites? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.
Until next time! Keep it sassy,
Rhonda, The Middle Sister
