Family Vacation to the Outer Banks of NC

Image
Our annual trip to the OBX came in May this year. Typically the weather is super nice this time of year. But the ocean water is still to chilly for me.  We stay at my husbands family vacation home in Rodanthe. Have you ever seen the movie Nights in Rodanthe ? That house is just up the street. It's especially fun to look at that house and take pictures. Someone actually moved the house a few years ago from it's original beachfront property because it was getting ready to go into the ocean. I'm glad whoever bought the house saved it. We stayed ten days this time around. The weather was perfect, in the mid 70s most of the time. Our daughter and grandson came along. We’ve been coming done as a family for over 30 years. My husband's family has been coming down for over 45 years.  Day1: We usually stop at a rest area a couple hours into the trip. Virginia has these LOVE signs all around the state. The next stop is ALWAYS The Border Station. Half the store is in Virginia and

Whether you are from another part of the country or from another country altogether, we hope you enjoy this collection of Southern sayings. 1. Bless your heart. While this phrase can be meant sincerely, it usually has an edge. This is a refine way of insulting your intelligence without using so many words. 2. If I had my druthers. ***UPDATED 5/31/24*** Did you know you can use household pantry items to help grow your garden and are great insect/animal repellants? Here are a few tips & tricks: BAKING SODA - S prinkle it on the surface of your soil to make your geraniums, coneflowers, daylilies, and clematis bloom like crazy. ***UPDATED 5/31/24*** It's National Ice Tea Month and I love iced tea. Typically if I'm going through the drive-thru at CFA or McDs, I get a sweet tea half cut, meaning the tea is way too sweet to order it full strength so I order a blend of sweet and unsweetened. Can you relate? I make iced tea on occasion with a tea maker and add simple syrup I've made. Normally it's just family-size tea bags with no other flavors. Sometimes, making flavored tea is on the agenda, like strawberry or mango flavors are delicious. Below are some thirst-quenching sweet tea recipes you'll have to try.  How to Make Southern Sweet Tea How to Make Sweet Tea INGREDIENTS 3 family-sized black tea bags ( or 12 individual tea bags), such as Lipton or Luzianne 1 Cup granulated sugar Ice Fresh mint leaves or lemon slices (optional) EQUIPMENT Small saucepan Long-handled spoon 1 Gal pitcher, or multiple smaller pitchers INSTRUCTIONS Boil the water.
