Top 10 Foods to Stock Up on NOW

Image
***UPDATED 8/5/23*** Are you shocked by the price increase in food lately? I sure am, so I've started stocking up on non-perishable foods. I'm not really what you call a prepper but with the way the world is right now, I don't think it will hurt to have a stockpile of food.  My suggestion on canned goods is, if you have an Aldi store nearby, shop there for your canned goods. They are cheaper than most grocery stores I shop and the quality is the same or even better. My husband loves their soups. Storage was a problem for us so we decided to buy a couple of cabinets to store our food. They didn't take long to put together and they look attractive. You can use whatever space you have but I suggest you designate a space for a large amount of food.  Amazon.com: Sauder Storage Cabinet, Highland Oak Finish : Home & Kitchen If you start storing up food, make sure when you use a food item that you replace it and put the newer product in the back, that way you won't hav

Birth Order Theory and How it Affects YOU

Image
We don’t know about you but the birth order thing interests us. It’s funny to read what the experts have come up with regarding the birth order personality traits. Some of the characteristics seem spot on and others way off. Here are some interesting facts about birth order: Can your birth order affect your job choice? A first-born or only child may be more likely to become a doctor or lawyer. Younger siblings more often turn to the arts or the outdoors. In part, you can credit parenting. Parents may over-protect the oldest or onlies. So they tend to follow more brain-based interests. When later children show up, parents can be more relaxed and hands-off. How much quality time do parents give firstborns compared with kids born later? Even when parents try to be even-steven, it rarely works out that way. Kids born first get as much as 3,000 more hours of quality time with parents than younger siblings do at the same age. As moms get older, they feel closest to their ... Older moms say t

July 2022 Taste of Home Bakeable's Challenge - Peach Cobbler

Image
Summer is the time of year to enjoy all those fresh veggies and fruits. So, why not use those fresh fruits in some delicious desserts. As you may well know by now, I’ve taken the Taste of Home Bakeable’s Challenge, and this month it’s a peach cobbler.  This recipe is fairly simple and only takes 15 minutes to prep. It’s a bit different than other cobblers I’ve made. It has beaten egg whites in the topping which made it super crunchy on the top. I happen to like it but my husband isn’t a fan of egg whites and could tell by the taste and texture. The peaches I bought weren’t large so I would recommend getting a couple of extra if your peaches are not large.  Check out some of the other Bakeable’s Challenges that I’ve made like the Lemon Meringue Pie  & the Vanilla Cream Fruit Tart  . If you want to sign up for the  Take Our Monthly Bakeable Challenge | Taste of Home  you can join me and a host of others in making delicious desserts. Substituting Stevia for Sugar in Recipes

Image
As some of you know, I am a Type 2 diabetic.  My real problem is that I have a sweet tooth.  So I have started experimenting with replacing sugar with Stevia in some of my favorite recipes.   I use Stevia in the Raw for my coffee in the morning.  I have found that it is not as sweet as Splenda, but Stevia doesn’t affect my sugar levels, while Splenda can.                                                                                                                                                                    I bought Stevia in the Raw to substitute in my baking recipes.  On the back of the package, it advised only substituting half the sugar with Stevia.  I thought that sounded like a good idea so I made some chocolate chip cookies.   My recipe calls for ¾ cup white sugar and ¾ cup brown sugar.  So I used Stevia instead of the white sugar and kept the brown sugar.  The cookies were fine.  They were not as sweet as regular chocolate chip cookies, but they were good.  (Sorry
