DIY Bath Steamers - Cathy tries and fails!

I wanted to try the DIY Bath Steamers from the Hallmark Channel Home and Family. I tried and failed.😏 But I had fun trying and will try again. You live and learn by failing, right??

Here's the materials list and directions if you'd like to take a stab at making these cute bath steamers:

MATERIALS

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Place the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch in a large bowl. Use a pastry cutter or large whisk to remove lumps and mix well.
  2. Add the water SLOWLY, 1 tbsp at a time. You have to be very careful because if you add too much water too soon, the whole thing will fizz up. Just be patient and keep testing by grabbing a handful of the mixture and squeezing it in your hand. As soon as it feels like damp sand (that would be perfect for making a sandcastle), you've added enough water.
  3. Add the essential oils, and after every few drops, use your pastry cutter or a fork to mash them into the mixture.
  4. Place about 2 tbsp of mixture into each dome, and use the back of a spoon or ice cream scoop to press down and smooth.
  5. Leave overnight.
  6. Carefully remove from molds and package in a pretty Mason jar or clear gift bag with ribbons and decorations etc.
  7. To Store: They will store for up to 6 months in a cool, dark cabinet.
DIRECTIONS
Take into the shower with you, wet it under the stream of water to get it going. Place the steamer at the far end of the bath/shower stall. You want it to last, and if it's under the stream of water it will disappear too quickly.
Caution: Because you are bringing oils into the shower, make sure you use a shower mat, and wipe out the shower floor when you are done.

If you are interested in good quality essential oils, contact Rhonda
Byler Essentials , she would be more happy to help you.

Have you every tried to make bath bombs or steamers? If so, please let us know your tricks of the trade and maybe your favorite scents.

Take care!!

10 Things NOT To Do While Stuck Inside Due to a Pandemic

10 Things NOT To Do While Stuck Inside Due to a Pandemic

1.       Don’t worry! Easier said than done but all this will pass and we will be able to get back to our regular lives.

2.       Don’t forget about your elderly neighbors. Just give them a call or knock on their door once in awhile to let them know they aren’t alone. But REMEMBER stay 6 feet away.

3.       DON’T GIVE UP! Not an option! We are all in this together.

4.       Don’t congregate with more than 10 people. Heed the warnings.

5.       Don’t shake hands with people. NO NO NO

6.       Don’t HOARD essentials items. We all are in need of these things.

7.       It’s not okay to say “I’m fine” when you are not, REACH out to talk with someone.

8.       Don’t forget to call your family members.

9.       Don’t forget to exercise. It’s good for you! Who remembers those outfits and big hair?? I DO!!

10.   Don’t forget to get a little sunshine. It helps with the blues and an excellent source of Vitamin D.

What are you doing to help keep the COVID19 at bay? We'd love to know!

Take care!!

10 Things To Do While Being Stuck Inside During a Pandemic

We are all in the same boat during this pandemic of COVID-19. Here are some things that you can do during your time held up in your home.

1. Complete a puzzle. It's always satisfying to finish puzzles.

2. Start a journal. This can be cathartic way of getting through difficult times.

3. Dust off that old instrument and practice.

4. Watch all the really long movies you’ve avoided until now.

5. Read a classic book.

6. Treat yourself to a skin care routine you don’t have time for during a normal work week.

7. Write an actual letter or note and send by snail mail. Who doesn’t like to get cards and notes in the mail?

8. Learn something new.

9. Try on all your clothes and determine whether they “spark joy” á la Marie Kondo.

10. Bake something.

The next blog we will talk about things NOT to so during a pandemic.

We would love to know what you are doing to keep busy during this time. Share your thoughts!

Take care!!

Butterscotch-Toffee Cheesecake Bars Recipe from Taste of Home

***updated March 4, 2023***

We hope & pray everyone is staying well especially during this time with the Coronavirus making its way through our country. Please use common sense and take care.
Now onto something we love to talk about...RECIPES!!

I'm an avid fan of Taste of Home recipes. As I was flipping through one of their many cookbooks, I came across this delicious-looking recipe with butterscotch, toffee, and cream cheese and who wouldn't love that combination? This is a multi-step recipe and it did take some time because of the steps but it's well worth it. They are extremely rich and would make a great dessert for church or a potluck supper.

Ingredients
1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
1 package (3.4 ounces) instant butterscotch pudding mix
1/3 cup canola oil
2 large eggs, divided use
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup brickle toffee bits, divided
1/2 cup butterscotch chips

  2. In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add remaining egg; beat on low speed just until combined. Fold in 1/2 cup of toffee bits. Spread over crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the filling is set.
