Ideas for Celebrating Father's Day

Not sure what to do for Father's Day 2023? You can throw dad a pizza party at home, make a Father's Day craft, or make a DIY card, there are plenty of creative things to do for Father's Day. Just check out our list of these top 10 Father's Day ideas.

Trust us, these unique Father's Day ideas will help make celebrating Dad a blast.

  1. Spoil him with breakfast in bed - Mothers aren't the only parent that likes to have breakfast in bed. Whip up his favorite breakfast foods and serve them on a tray with his favorite beverage.

  2. Conduct an indoor scavenger hunt and watch Dad try to figure out clues around the house, leading up to his present. Organize Zen with Magan has some great ideas.

  3. Have a pizza party - Everyone loves pizza. Make or buy some premade pizza dough and put different toppings in bowls and have Dad and the kids decorate it! Here's a wonderful grilled pizza recipe to try Perfect Grilled Pizza.

  4. Do a blindfolded beer taste test - Go to your nearest grocery store and grab 6 different kinds of beer, varying in style and flavors. Then, blindfold Dad and see if he can guess which one is which! My hubby would love this idea.

  5. Throw some axes in the backyard - Grab a hatchet and stand back at least 6 feet away from a wooden target or tree trunk. Hold the ax's handle with two hands, wind it up behind your head, and throw it straight to release. Pro tip: Watch YouTube videos to perfect your throwing technique before you start!

  6. Go bowling - Hit up your local bowling alley for some old-fashioned fun.

  7. Play mini-golf - If Dad is a regular Tiger Woods, hit up the local mini-golf course together.

  8. Take a scenic route - If you are lucky enough to live in an area with mountains, rivers, and canyons, consider taking a long drive instead of hiking. Dad will still get to see the beauty of nature and have some great car ride conversations!

  9. Visit an arcade - Almost everyone does their gaming at home these days, which is what makes going to the arcade such a blast. He’ll be reminded of his childhood playing pinball, Pac-Man, or another not-so-forgotten favorite.

  10. Go to a sports game It's baseball season! Find a game to attend, whether it's the majors, minors, or just the local softball league playing down the street. A game’s still a game, no matter where it’s played.

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure Dad will love it.

What do you do for the dad in your life? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

June is National Country Cooking Month - Enjoy these 10 Recipes

Did you know that June was National Country Cooking Month? Me neither. This is a perfect opportunity to try something new or make an old family favorite. The summer is a time most families spend taking a vacation or visiting relatives and that's when we can savor some good ole country cooking.

Country cooking is often known as comfort food such as fried chicken, green beans with bacon and we can't forget the biscuits. There's a lot of heart and soul that goes into those meals and they bring back memories. We can pass the recipes and techniques down from generation to generation.

How can we observe Country Cooking Month? You can eat at restaurants that serve country-style foods such as Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Country Cookin restaurant, Paula Deen's Lady and Sons, Bojangles Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits, or Country Kitchen. Check your area for some southern or country cooking cuisine.

How about cooking up some of these Southern classics:

TAZO Passion Herbal Tea Product Review

As I was looking for ways to lower my blood pressure, I read that hibiscus tea might help, after reading about the benefits of  TAZO Passion Herbal Tea, I thought I'd give it a try.

Well, I was in a hurry to grab some and this is what I found at Weis Grocery Store for $3.99, TAZO Passion Herbal Tea.

Nice packaging!

Ingredients are hibiscus flower, Natural flavor, citric acid, licorice root, orange peel, cinnamon, rose hips, lemongrass, hibiscus, and elderberry extract for color.

I poured hot water over the tea bag into the cup and the color immediately starts to come out.  It says to steep for 5 minutes.

I took the tea bag and put in a second cup to see what would happen. There is still color but a little weaker.

So, I tasted the first cup after letting it steep for 5 minutes as required. I heard no longer or it gets bitter.

My thoughts are...

It is very tangy/tart without sugar or honey. I decide to put the two cups together and cool. Then I added honey.

I liked it cooled and with honey. I did put about a tablespoon of honey to even out the tartness.

Final review...

Yes, I like it. I will be using this tea as a refreshing cool drink and not warm. It did not lower my blood pressure like I was hoping but maybe if I drink it daily?

If you are a tea drinker, this is a  good one! If you want it sweet, add real honey after it has cooled and you will get those good nutrients from that as well.

When or if you try this tea, let us know what you think! Comment below.

Keep it Sassy,

Cathy

Bacon Broccoli Cheddar Crustless Quiche Recipe Review

Do you get sick of eating the same old thing for dinner? I surely do. As I was looking in the frig for some dinner inspiration, I found I had some leftover broccoli and some eggs. So I thought maybe Quiche would do the trick.

I went to the trusty interweb and there were lots of recipes and they looked good, but I didn't have all the ingredients on hand.  Plus, I wanted a crustless recipe since my husband is trying not to eat so much gluten.  I came across this recipe, Bacon Broccoli Cheddar Crustless Quiche.  This recipe makes the quiche high protein and low carb.  If you are watching your sugars, as I am, that is exactly what you need to eat.

Amazingly I had all the ingredients.

That narrowed down how I choose the recipe.  I did add a bit of onion which was not on the list.   Since my broccoli was fresh, I put a little butter, chopped onion, and the broccoli in a pan and cooked it until the broccoli was cooked a little.  I also added a little pepper too and used some whole milk.

Otherwise, I followed the instructions. It was easy to make.

Bacon Broccoli Cheddar Crustless Quiche

Prep Time5 mins
Cook Time1 hr 10 mins
Total Time1 hr 15 mins
Servings: 8 slices

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. frozen broccoli florets
  • 4 oz. bacon
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1/4 tsp seasoning salt*
  • 4 oz. shredded medium cheddar, divided

Instructions

  • Take the broccoli florets out of the freezer so they can begin to thaw. Place the bacon in a skillet and cook over medium-low heat until very brown and crispy. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain and pour off most of the grease from the skillet.
  • Turn the heat under the skillet up to medium-high and add the broccoli florets. Sauté them in the residual bacon grease until they are no longer frozen. Transfer the broccoli to a cutting board. Roughly chop the florets into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
  • Begin preheating the oven to 350ºF. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Parmesan, and seasoning salt.
  • Coat a 9-inch pie plate in non-stick spray (or butter, if you prefer). Place the chopped broccoli in the dish along with half of the shredded cheddar. Crumble the bacon over top. Stir the broccoli, cheddar, and bacon together.
  • Place the pie plate on a baking sheet for easy transport in and out of the oven. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bacon, broccoli, and cheddar into the dish. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar.
  • Bake the crustless quiche for 50-55 minutes, or until the center is puffed and it is golden brown around the edges. Let the crustless quiche cool slightly before slicing it into eight pieces and serving.

My husband loved it.  It was enough for us to have two dinners. I thought it turned out well and I would make it again.

Do you make quiche?  If so, do you use a crust or not?

Until next time,
