Corolla, North Carolina Outer Banks Sites to See Part 2

Image
On our adventures in the OBX, we took a day and went to Corolla, North Carolina just north of Duck.  Mileage-wise, it was not that far from where we were staying in Kill Devil Hills, but it took some time since the traffic was slow on the small road leading to Corolla.  And there was road work being done in Duck.  Our first stop was the lighthouse.  There is a museum (free to enter) and a gift shop.  One can walk up the lighthouse, for a fee, but my hip was not having it since we had been to the Wright Brothers Memorial the day before. If you didn't get to read about our journey to the Wright Brothers Memorial, just click the link >> OBX Wright Brothers National Memorial Sites to See Part 1 Below is the other place we visited. This massive house is the Whalehead Club Historic Mansion. For a small fee, one can tour this house.  They do not allow photography inside the house.  This house took years to build and was completed in 1925.  It has been restored with period pieces

Outer Banks, North Carolina Sites to  See,  Part  1 Wright Brothers National Memorial    My hubby and I recently spent four days in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We picked this spot because for one, we have never been there and two, it’s not far away from where we live in Virginia.  We visited sites from Corolla to Cape Hatteras.  We saw several lighthouses, a garden, and a National Park. We stayed in Kill Devil Hills at a hotel called the Shutters on the Banks .  The hotel came with a hot breakfast.   Our room had two queen beds, a desk, a chair, a balcony with chairs and a table, a coffee maker, a microwave, and a small fridge.  There was an indoor and outdoor pool. The first place we went to see was at a National Park.  The Wright Brothers National Memorial right there in Kill Devil Hills.  The cost to get in was $10 per person.  The park ranger was very nice and told us an annual pass to all the National Parks would cost the same as just seeing this memorial, so that is what

Family Vacation to the Outer Banks of NC

Image
Our annual trip to the OBX came in May this year. Typically the weather is super nice this time of year. But the ocean water is still to chilly for me.  We stay at my husbands family vacation home in Rodanthe. Have you ever seen the movie Nights in Rodanthe ? That house is just up the street. It's especially fun to look at that house and take pictures. Someone actually moved the house a few years ago from it's original beachfront property because it was getting ready to go into the ocean. I'm glad whoever bought the house saved it. We stayed ten days this time around. The weather was perfect, in the mid 70s most of the time. Our daughter and grandson came along. We’ve been coming done as a family for over 30 years. My husband's family has been coming down for over 45 years.  Day1: We usually stop at a rest area a couple hours into the trip. Virginia has these LOVE signs all around the state. The next stop is ALWAYS The Border Station. Half the store is in Virginia and

Newport Aquarium Kentucky Trip Part 3

Image
On our last day in Kentucky, my husband and I went to the Newport Aquarium , located at 1 Levee Way, Newport, Kentucky.   It was fairly easy to get to the parking garage.   Then you can walk downtown or right by the entrance to the aquarium there are vendors and shops for different foods.            The aquarium is right on the river.   You can stroll along the river or cross this bridge into Cincinnati, Ohio.   The building has artwork and beautiful flowers along the riverside.    As you can imagine, there were lots to see inside the aquarium as well.    Fish, sharks, seahorses, octopus, crabs, lobsters, frogs, snakes, and on and on.   Lots to see for all ages. Upside down jellyfish and this octopus was on the move.                      It does not take all day for the aquarium.   So if you go, just drive around and see the sites.   Leroy and I enjoy doing that.   We had a great time in Kentucky.   I hope you get to go and experience some of the fun. Have you been to Newport Aquar
