OBX Wright Brothers National Memorial Sites to See Part 1

Outer Banks, North Carolina

Sites to See,  Part 1

Wright Brothers National Memorial

My hubby and I recently spent four days in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We picked this spot because for one, we have never been there and two, it’s not far away from where we live in Virginia.

We visited sites from Corolla to Cape Hatteras.  We saw several lighthouses, a garden, and a National Park.

We stayed in Kill Devil Hills at a hotel called the Shutters on the Banks.  The hotel came with a hot breakfast.   Our room had two queen beds, a desk, a chair, a balcony with chairs and a table, a coffee maker, a microwave, and a small fridge.  There was an indoor and outdoor pool.

The first place we went to see was at a National Park.  The Wright Brothers National Memorial right there in Kill Devil Hills.  The cost to get in was $10 per person.  The park ranger was very nice and told us an annual pass to all the National Parks would cost the same as just seeing this memorial, so that is what we purchased.

The main building there houses one of the Wright Brothers' planes inside.  There is a ranger who gives a talk about the different materials used and the different designs they used.

There is also a lot of information about the family and the brothers.

There is also a gift shop and bathroom available.

The rest of the sites to see are outside.  Go early in the day, as it takes a while to see everything.

Wear your walking shoes as the monument is on a hill.  It is quite a hike, but well worth it.

The monument pictured below is very impressive.  On the other side of the monument is an all-metal display of the day of the first flight.

It depicts the plane, the brothers, and the other men who were there that day they first flew.  While the flight wasn’t high in the air, they did get it off the ground and flew several times going father each time.

This is a great place to visit if you are in the area.  There is so much more to see than the ones I shared.  So you will have to make a visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial Park and see for yourself.

I will have more blog posts about the other places we visited while in the Outer Banks. Stay tuned!!

Have you been to the Wright Brothers National Memorial Park? If so what was your favorite part?

Until next time! Keep it sassy,

Rhonda, The Middle Sister
