Sisters watch the movie "Tammy"

We were delighted to have the theater all to ourselves so we could comment and talk without the worry of annoying someone !!

Tammy (2014)

After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother.

Melissa McCarthy wrote, produced and starred in this comedy.

I enjoyed the movie and was all involved in Tammy's troubles -- kinda felt sorry for her -- poor thing -- everything that could go wrong, did !!

Funny and sad at the same time -- if you can imagine that !

She starts off having car trouble by hitting a deer, losing her job , then losing her husband and on and on from there  -- to eventually finding herself with someone she can relate to and finding happiness !!

Lots of funny moments and she is very believable as her character Tammy  and her crazy grandma ( Susan Sarandon) was also believable -- they were good together !!

I had a good time watching this movie with my isisters -- Kelly and Rhonda -- they can give you their take on this film later !
thanks,
Cathy

Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies - Mmmm Good

This is Kelly and I'm a Pinterest addict. I couldn't help myself, I had to confess :)

My family just loves carrot cake and when I found this recipe for these Carrot Cake Cookie Sandwiches on Pinterest, I had to make them.

They have a few ingredients and if you'd rather make them from scratch, just use your own oatmeal & raisin cookie recipe and add some carrots to the batter. They are delicious!!

Here is a picture of the cookies I made and the Pinterest cookies. I've seen those pictures of the before and after of a cake or craft item and the after is no where close to the actual idea. I don't think I did half bad, if I must so say myself :)

Make them and I guarantee you'll love them!! ENJOY!!

Review on the movie -- Dallas Buyers Club

  1. Dallas Buyers Club
  2. This movie is a story about extremes -- too much sex, drugs, drinking, foul mouth and gambling -- but that is the main character's (Ron Woodroof) personality !
  3. I found the movie hard to watch because of all the extremes -- but Matthew McConaughey (as Woodroof) did a very good job and made you believe he was the character !
  4. In the 80's , Ron Woodroof was a man of extremes and finds out he is HIV-infected and has a month to live. So being the tough character he is -- he decided to study and find alternative medicine for himself .
  5.  A light bulb goes off in his head and uses his money making skills  to gather alternative meds and form a buyers club for the Dallas area ( there was already one in NY ) because he could sell memberships but could not sell the unapproved drugs.
  6. Through this experience  he finds out  homosexuals were not the only ones being infected with HIV(which was the mindset of the 80's).
The story is great -- movie is rated R for a reason !

If you decide to watch it -- be prepared -- it is extreme !

Tips to Help Make Your Holiday a Little Less Stressful

***Updated 2023***

I know a lot of people get so caught up in having a wonderful holiday that they get stressed out.

You can do some things to make it a little less stressful.

Here are a few tips.

  1. Set a budget for your gift-giving.
  2. For the cookie bakers: you can make the cookie dough ahead of time and freeze it.
  3. Wrap as you go: just make sure you label them.
  4. You don't have to go to every party. Sometimes it makes you crazy by trying to fit them all in, just say NO. Politely, of course.
  5. Organize and delegate: you can't do it all.
  6. If you can purchase gifts in advance, it really helps.
  7. Fewer decorations mean less putting away, get it?
  8. Don't forget to have fun: make up some games, treasure hunts, etc.
  9. Keep your holiday receipts in a special place.
  10. If you are traveling on Christmas day, make sure you fill up your gas tank early.
  11. Have a few emergency gifts just in case there are extra guests or you forgot someone.
Don't forget to enjoy your time with family and friends!

What do you do to make the holidays a little easier? We'd love to hear from you, comment below.

Happy holidays!

Christmas Windows

If your looing for something to do one evening, take a stroll Downtown Fredericksburg, VA. The old town shops have wonderful displays of Christmas decorated windows.

My husband and I took a stroll Wednesday evening, taking advantage of the beautiful weather. It's a cheap date night if you are stretching your dollars.

BTW, they are having a contest WINDOW WONDERLAND, so gather your family, solve the riddle, and enter your responses PLUS the top three favorite decorated storefronts and you could win $1,000 CASH or one of many other prizes totaling over $3,000! http://www.visitfred.com/window-wonderland

If you don't live in the area, take advantage of your small town. They would love your support this holiday season and during the year.

Enjoy a few of the windows I photographed, maybe this will spur you on for a stroll this Christmas.
