Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2023-24

As Christmas approaches, the Sassy Silver Sisters are filled with joy and excitement. We can't help but feel grateful for another year of laughter, love, and sisterhood. Christmas has always been a special time for us, as we gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus, exchange thoughtful gifts, and indulge in delicious homemade treats. But this year, as we reflect on the past 12 months, we are reminded that the true meaning of Christmas goes far beyond the materialistic aspects. It's about cherishing the moments spent with our loved ones, spreading kindness and love to those around us, and being grateful for all the blessings in our lives.

As we enter a new year, we are filled with hope and anticipation for what's to come. The start of a new year brings a sense of renewal and the opportunity to set new goals and make positive changes in our lives. We are excited to see what adventures and challenges await us in the coming months, and we are ready to face them with our signature sass and silver hair.

But as we look forward to the future, we can't help but also look back on the memories we've made throughout the year. From Cathy's weekly Facebook chats to our monthly get-togethers, and every moment spent with YOU has been filled with laughter and love.

As we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we also want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for being a part of our journey. Whether you've been following us since the beginning or just stumbled upon our sassy adventures, we are grateful for your support and love. You have become a part of our family, and we are blessed to have you in our lives.

So as we with our family and friends, let us also remember to spread love and joy to those around us. Let's make this holiday season a time of giving, not just of gifts, but of kindness, compassion, and generosity. From the Sassy Silver Sisters to you, we wish you a Christmas filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. And may the new year bring you happiness, success, and all the sass your heart desires. Cheers to a fabulous holiday season and an even more fabulous new year!

Keep it sassy,

The Sassy Silver Sisters

Christmas or Winter Gnome Craft Project with Lights

We had so much fun making these little Winter Gnomes, that we thought we'd share the craft with you. Maybe you can take it and use your imagination and make whatever gnome your heart desires.

There are many holidays throughout the year to make a gnome for Valentine's Day, St.Patrick's Day, July 4th, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

Here's all you need:

Step-by-step instructions:

Paint your pint jar with white paint, preferably for glass, then sprinkle white glitter all over the jar. Make sure you let it sit and dry before moving on to the next step. I also suggest you seal it because the glitter comes off rather easily and who likes glitter everywhere? Not me!

Cut your fabric into a triangle shape, and make sure the bottom is curved, it will go on the jar lid easier. Then hot glue the rick rack onto the bottom of the fabric.

Hot glue the fabric to the lid and overlap the fabric.

Glue the fabric up the middle to make the hat.

Cut the arm pieces out of the fabric and the mittens out of felt. Then glue the mittens to the back side of the arm fabric.

Fold and glue both sides to make the arms.

wishlist on Amazon.com. We have items starting as low as $6.

Cut a piece of rick rack out for the trim and hot glue them.

Glue the arms to the sides of the jar.

Cut a piece of faux fur and glue it to the jar. Make sure it's under the lip of the jar because you will have to screw the top on.

Cut out a heart shape for the feet and glue it to the bottom of the jar.

Pull back the fur to make a little area to glue the wood nose on.

Glue the nose.

Use the powder to make the nose rosey on one side.

Use the white paint or maker to make three dots on the side of the rosey nose.

Fold over the hat and glue the snowflake onto the top of the hat.

Glue the snowball onto the felt hand.

Turn the lights on and stick them in the jar. Close the lid on the gnome.

VOILA! You've created a Winter Gnome. How fun is that?

Watch him glow in the night. Cute little gnome.

You will find us making the craft here on our Youtube Channel at around 16:00 minutes. We had a lot of laughs with Rhonda making the gnome, she's a good sport. Her poor fingers. 🤣

Or you can take a look at the tutorial I made, whichever you choose I hope you enjoy the effort.

Are you a crafty person? Have you made anything like these gnomes? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

Happy holidays!

Birth Order Theory and How it Affects YOU

We don’t know about you but the birth order thing interests us. It’s funny to read what the experts have come up with regarding the birth order personality traits. Some of the characteristics seem spot on and others way off.

Here are some interesting facts about birth order:

  • Can your birth order affect your job choice?

A first-born or only child may be more likely to become a doctor or lawyer. Younger siblings more often turn to the arts or the outdoors. In part, you can credit parenting.

Parents may over-protect the oldest or onlies. So they tend to follow more brain-based interests. When later children show up, parents can be more relaxed and hands-off.

  • How much quality time do parents give firstborns compared with kids born later?

Even when parents try to be even-steven, it rarely works out that way. Kids born first get as much as 3,000 more hours of quality time with parents than younger siblings do at the same age.

  • As moms get older, they feel closest to their ...

Older moms say they feel closest to their "babies" no matter what the family size or spacing between kids.

In the same study, mothers said firstborns were the ones they'd turn to when facing personal problems or a crisis.

  • Who's more likely to put pressure on themselves?

Firstborns tend to try to be "perfect" more often than later-borns. But kids without siblings, who are often treated like little adults, seem to have even more of this trait.

  • How many people have at least one brother or sister?

It's clear why birth order interests us so much. Most of us weren't born the only child in a family.

Kids who are spaced less than two years apart often have more conflict than those born more than two years apart, pediatricians say.

  • Parents call the doctor less often with later-born children.

Doctors often tell new parents there's no such thing as a dumb question. Parents climb a steep learning curve about how to take care of a child.

That's why studies show that they call the doctor more with a firstborn. But time builds confidence. Parents also figure out which problems a doctor can help with and which they can handle on their own.

Here are some traits that hit the nail on the head in our family:

  • Oldest child - Cathy is the oldest girl in our family

If you're the firstborn child, you have your parents all to yourself for a period of time. Because it’s your parents’ first time being parents, they tend to dole out attention to you. They’re also extra careful when it comes to all aspects of child-rearing — from bumps and bruises to early education. Eldest children benefit from all this attention.

Your parents might expect a lot from you if you're the oldest, especially as other children are born into your family. Your parents might seem stricter with you and often expect you to set an example for your younger siblings and show responsibility.

Studies show if you're the eldest child, you tend to demonstrate leadership skills. Maybe you're a leader in the workplace already, or rising to the top of your industry.‌

  • Middle child - Rhonda is the middle child

It’s a stereotype that if you're a middle child you're a peacekeeper, but there seems to be a grain of truth behind the saying. Because you lack the title of being the oldest or the youngest, you seek to carve out a niche for yourself in the family dynamic. You tend to enjoy negotiation and compromise. You can often relate to people of different ages with ease.

You can be competitive with your older sibling — maybe by breaking their sports records, becoming more fluent in a language, or getting better grades. Or you might behave more rebelliously.

Check out our video on middle child syndrome...

  • Youngest child - Kelly is the youngest girl

As the baby of the family, you tend to take one of two paths when developing your personality, according to Adler. The first path is a clear journey to success, where you try to excel in every way, often becoming the go-to person in the family. Youngest children can also become avoidant if they lack the confidence or drive to excel.

You might have freedoms your older siblings don't have. As your parents’ rules become more relaxed, your parents can be more hands-off with you. You're usually assured of your place in the family and can be very creative, rebellious, and outgoing.

  • Only child

If you're an only child, you've been surrounded by adults since birth. That’s not to say you weren’t socialized with other children through kindergarten, the playground, or school. But during your time at home, you socialized with parents and other adults, mimicking their behaviors and becoming "small people".

Your parents might be overprotective of you, leading you to become dependent on your parents for support. You aren’t used to sharing clothes, space, or parental attention with siblings. This can make you intelligent and creative, but also stubborn and set in your ways.

Thanks to WebMd for this information.

Where are you positioned in the family? Do any of these traits fit you or your siblings? Please share your comments below. Can't wait to hear from you!

Keep it sassy,
Kelly

The Sangria Bowl will delight friends, family, and food-lovers with exciting flavors inspired by the Caribbean and South America. Neoclassical theatre vibes, an art deco-inspired sangria bar, a rooftop terrace, and a lively atmosphere frame an inviting exploration of the many delights from their kitchen. The owners are Puerto Rican and Chilean and invite you to enjoy fun and creative sangria, cocktails, and their small plates and taco menu.

Sister's Review:

CATHY I was wondering where this restaurant was located. It is in the old State Theater building. The old theater still has the ticket window. The halls are decorated with lights to add atmosphere. Signs are everywhere pointing the way. It is located on the 2nd floor but there is an elevator, so that is nice. Outdoor seating if you want but it was raining so we decided to stay in.

It was not busy so we had the place to ourselves!  The music makes the mood fun and the restaurant is decorated nicely. The waitress was attentive and took my joking very well.

We ordered samples of the sangria flavors. I preferred the pineapple flavor.

Food came quickly and warm. I had the pork taco. The serving is small but the flavor is very good!  I enjoyed it. The taco shell was a little too tough and greasy for me.

I asked the waitress if we need to make reservations for lunch on weekdays and she said not Mon-Thurs because their busy time is for dinner and weekends. If you want to secure your table, you should probably make a reservation though.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The prices are reasonable. Interesting place to have a meal.

Rhonda  I had the Strawberry Salad.  It was made with arugula and spinach and had some crumbled cheese as well which was not in the description.  It was a mild cheese.   It had lots of cut strawberries more than any salad I have ever had.  The salad came with a strawberry cream dressing.  It was pink in color and on the thick side.  The taste was a little tangy, mild not overpowering.  All in all, I thought the serving size was great and the flavor delicious.

Kelly The sangria is was I was looking forward to trying. We ordered a sample of four. The flavors were Lavendar Lemonade, Pineapple, Cherry Red Wine, and Strawberry. My favorite was the pineapple. The others weren't as flavorful as I had hoped. I ordered the Caribbean Wrap which featured Jerk chicken, lettuce, pineapple mango salsa, and black beans wrap. I did have a bit of a bite but was not overpowering. It was served with a delicious spring side salad with mixed greens, apples, and cheese. The serving size was just right for lunch. I'd order this dish again.

We decided we would try a couple of desserts and ordered the Tres Leche cake and the Cheese and Guava Empanada. The Tres Leche cake was sweet, moist, and spongy just like it should be. The empanada was a delicious surprise. The guava gave it the sweetness it needed because the cheese didn't have that much flavor and was a bit tough, assuming because it was deep-fried. The crust was crispy and flaky.

Star rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ out of 5 - We gave the restaurant 4 stars because we weren't all 100% pleased with the food. But that being said, we would give it another try because we loved the atmosphere and the staff was superb. If you live in the area, we recommend trying The Sangria Bowl out for a change.

Cathy made this cute video, check it out!

  • Our rating system is 1 - 5 stars.

    • 1 ⭐ = Poor. There’s nothing good about the restaurant. We won't be returning.
    • 2 ⭐ ⭐ = Okay. The restaurant has one or two good qualities. It might be a delicious dish, helpful staff, or an inviting atmosphere. Still, you have no interest in visiting again.
    • 3 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ = Good. A fine example of a specific kind of restaurant. It can be delicious food with excellent service. We may think about returning if we wish to have that particular cuisine.
    • 4 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ = Excellent. Delicious food, appealing atmosphere, helpful staff, and brilliant service.
    • 5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ = Extraordinary. Meets an elite standard by which you judge all other restaurants. The staff is always ready to help, the premises are extremely clean, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifully presented.
  • We'd love to hear from you, especially if you have tried TSB. Comment below!

  • Stay sweet & sassy,
