What brings you joy???

***Updated 4/29/23***

I've been thinking lately about what brings me joy. We all go through trials in our lives and I believe that during the struggle we can find a blessing and joy.

Here are a few things that bring me JOY:

  • My Lord as Savior is the foremost JOY in my life. If it wasn't for him giving me life and victory to fight the good fight, I don't know where I'd be today. Thank you, Lord!!

  • My husband Jay, is my greatest earthly joy. He makes me laugh at the dumbest things and he keeps me grounded. He's a wonderful father, grandfather, and provider and he's the love of my life. I'm glad he found me!

  • My children are a blessing and a joy, no matter how old they are, they will always be my babies.
  • My grandchildren are just the icing on the cake with a big old JOY on top. I love them to the moon and back. What's the saying, "If I had known grandchildren were this much fun I would have had them first".
  • My dog Baxter is a wonderful dog and brings great joy. You don't need therapy when you have a dog. They sit there and listen without judgment. Baxter is soft to the touch, fun to play with, and loves to be with me.
  • Birdwatching has become therapeutic and a great joy. I feed the birds in my front yard and as I sit on the front porch watching and listening to them I can only think about God's mighty creation and that He not only made them for Himself but for our enjoyment.
  • Chocolate is a great joy. I LOVE it!! It tastes so good and creamy. Oh to have a Snickers bar right about now.
  • The beach is a source of joy. Sitting on the beach or on the deck of the beach house has this calming effect.  I could go to sleep in the hammock under the beach chouse. There is a sense of peace and joy that comes over me when watching and listening to the ocean waves.

  • Gardening has become fun for me. The joy it brings me to see my flowers grow and the harvesting of my veggies is indescribable.

  • My husband bought me a water fountain for Mother’s Day a couple of years ago. It has a relaxing effect and sounds like a babbling brook in nature. Brings me JOY me every day.

  • Trying a new restaurant: You never know what’s out there as far as different food unless you try a new restaurant and that always brings me joy. I love food 🥘

  • Making a seafood boil: I have been making seafood boils for years now, especially on our beach trips. What brings me joy about this is my family loves it. Just the sounds and smiles on their faces bring me extreme joy.

I could go on and on about the joys in my life. How about you, what brings you joy? We'd love to know. Comment and share your joys!!

Keep it sassy!!

DON'T FORGET our Tip Jar. Our equipment works okay but we'd like to have a better camera, lighting and a microphone. With the TIP JAR we can eventually purchase these items.  If you enjoy our videos and you'd like to help us out, even if it's a dollar, we would be so excited.  We have yet to decide the type of camera we would like to have, so we will let you know when we have figured it out. We really aren't all that savvy when it comes to all this technical stuff but we are willing to try. Can't fault a girl for trying. ;) UPDATE: We have purchased new lighting thanks to our TIP JAR !!

   Front Porch Market & Grill

  6483 Main Street
 The Plains, VA

Centered on Virginia Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) and Virginia Route 245 (Old Tavern Road)

The historic railroad house has undergone an extensive renovation in 2015 - and is now transformed into a restaurant emphasizing fresh and local ingredients with a market featuring unique treasures.

On  Monday , 11/23/15 , we celebrated Rhonda's birthday by going to a place of her choice to eat lunch.

She chose the Front  Porch Market and Grill because she heard it was new and others had enjoyed their meal there.
It was an easy to find place and easy to park on street.

We were greeted with smiles and  got to choose upstairs or downstairs. We let the waitress decide. So we went upstairs to a nice area with rustic decor .  Plenty of room and comfortable.
As you see below -- brown paper and crayons over a table cloth made our day !!

We ordered and had Rhonda open her gift !
Can you tell if she is enjoying her gift ??

Didn't take long to order our lunch and wasn't a long wait for the meal!

Presentation was very nice . Colorful dishes !!
Sandwiches were delicious, potato salad and coleslaw were wonderful and chips made fresh !!
For dessert -- Rhonda chose warm brownie with vanilla ice cream -- OH MY -- loved it!!
We made Rhonda share, by the way !

If you get the opportunity, go have a great meal and enjoy the

Front Porch !

Our video will let you know how much we enjoyed it!

WARNING the video you are about to see may make you laugh !!

I had to keep saying the word FRESH because Kelly didn't like us using the same words all the time! So as the oldest sister , I had to do my duty and tease the baby sister !!~~Cathy

Happy Birthday to Cathy and our SSS Review of The Black Bear Bistro

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHY
to the oldest of the three of us!!

We sisters always get together for our birthdays by going out for lunch. This month happens to be Cathy's birthday and she picked the Black Bear Bistro in Warrenton, Virginia. Old Town Warrenton is a quaint little town with lots of charm.

Upon entering the Black Bear Bistro we noticed right away they had a terrace we could eat our lunch on this beautiful fall day. The waitress told us we could chose anywhere we would like to sit and of course, in SSS fashion we sat down, ordered our drinks and then decided to change tables. Our waitress was gracious and said, "by all means sit where you are most comfortable". At this point during the lunch hour, there weren't many people dining, so we had our pick of tables.
We girls decided, after looking at the menu and hearing the special of the day which was a personal pan brick oven pizza with side salad,  that we would pick from their brick oven pizzas. Cathy chose the ALOHA with brick sauce, shredded mozzarella, pineapple and bacon. Rhonda chose the PAISANO with roasted garlic cream sauce, spinach, shredded mozzarella and sautéed onions. I (Kelly) chose the VERDURA with rosemary oil, minced garlic, feta, artichokes, spinach, mushroom, red onion, and basil vinaigrette.

Would you like to hear what we thought about The Black Bear Bistro?? This is our first video so be kind ;)

The BBB also treated Cathy to a dessert of her choice and she chose the Chocolate Cheesecake with Chocolate sauce, Whipped Cream and cherries. Lots of cherries because who can share one cherry??? Not us ;)

If you live in the area, we recommend trying them out if you haven't already. Here's their website

Take a look at the photos we took during our visit to the Black Bear Bistro.

Old Town Warrenton has a Lamp Post contest going on this month. This is one of the lamp posts and I believe Rhonda and Cathy were having too much fun and scared the stuffing out of this straw man!!

Take a stroll downtown Warrenton sometime. It's absolutely beautiful this time of year.

All in all, it was a good day with great food, awesome company and hopefully many more birthdays to celebrate with my sisters.

Until next time friends!!

Fork in the Alley Review

One of the restaurants we visited on our Sisters Weekend in Roanoke, Virginia was The Fork in the Alley. Cool little spot for lunch or dinner. Although, it's not easy to find because it’s tucked into an alley next to a 7-11 and isn't where you would expect a restaurant. It's nestled on Crystal Spring Ave. in Roanoke.

Fork in the Alley
We arrived there mid-afternoon on a Saturday and it was busy. There isn’t a ton of parking as the only parking is along the street. We had to go around the block just to find the FITA but we did and found a parking space fairly close. The ambience is quirky and fun. We were seated fairly quickly. The menu is pretty basic. We decided to order a Hawaiian Brick Oven Pizza. It was big and tasty. Our waitress was attentive and kind.

All in all a good restaurant to visit and would probably go again when I'm in Roanoke just to try their burgers.
This bench is outside the restaurant and if you look close you can see their logo.
Thanks for taking the time to read our blog ~ Kelly Jo

Kelly's Review of FoodE

Hi everyone! Welcome to our blog. We trying this blogging thing out and hope to inform you and maybe even give you a chuckle now and then.

Cathy has already given her two cents of the FoodE restaurant in Fredericksburg, VA.
I'm going to way in with my review.

When we first arrived around 11:40am on a Friday, we traveled down this alley that was decorated with hanging bottles filled with what looked like glow liquid, I'm sure it would look cool when dining in the evening. There were tables decked out with faux grass and artwork of Virginia with moss, oh and a antique bicycle covered in moss. I just thought that was out of this world creative.

The kitchen is upstairs so when you arrive you see people coming from the entrance and going up the stairs with dishes and some coming down the stairs with food. It seemed a little dangerous to me but I guess it's working for them.

We entered the restaurant and the gracious young women working gave us each a paper menu and as we stood in line we each decided what to order. I ordered the Turkey Club and the tomato basil soup with their freshed brewed sweet iced tea.

As soon as we ordered. a table came available and we were seated right away. The décor was simple, the walls were filled with canvas artwork of downtown Fredericksburg. The tables were all different heights and they had a leather couch and chairs to sit while waiting for a table. The restaurant is small but the place was booming with customers. Obviously that says a lot about their establishment. It was a bit loud with chatter, we could hardly hear ourselves talk.

Our meals came in a timely manner. The turkey club was filled all-natural roast turkey breast sliced thin and served three-high on locally-baked brioche bread with honey mustard aioli, all-natural
lettuce, sliced cheddar cheese and thick sliced bacon. served with a side of our creamy tomato-chevre soup. I was a little disappointed in the bacon, it was overcooked and hard to eat. But overall the sandwich was delicious. The soup had texture and a little tart which I liked immensely. The fresh brewed sweet tea was very southern, was served in a canning jar. We were able to get refills on our own.

Cathy had mentioned that the bathrooms weren't labeled, we noticed people standing in line, men and women. I didn't care that it was unisex but Cathy seemed to be disgruntled about it.

Also the food is locally and organically grown which I'm thrilled with because I live in the area and believe in supporting our local businesses.

I would highly recommend FoodE, try them out when in you're in town.

By the way it was Rhonda's birthday and she treated us to lunch, how about that? She had gift certificate to dine there so I don't feel so bad, hehe.
