Fall Date Ideas

***UPDATED 9/2/23***

Jay and I try and take time to do something fun every week, whether be a lunch date, hike in the park, or shopping at Goodwill. Yes, I said Goodwill, we both like finding a good deal. When it comes to the Fall season, there can be some unique things to do. Here are a few of our favorite things to do and we hope you can take time with your loved one to reconnect and just have fun together.

  • The Pumpkin Patch - Typically we go to the pumpkin patch with our grandson but we have gone alone and had a great time. We have a favorite place called Snead's Farm and it's an awesome place to hang out. Find your favorite pumpkin patch.

  • Take a Drive to the Mountains - this is always a favorite thing to do for Jay and myself. Looking at the changing leaves is just a beautiful sight. You can't say there's no God when you look at His handiwork in creation.
    Skyline Drive

  • Go for a Hike - This is a great time to talk and get some exercise. Sometimes it's hard to get into some good conversations when you are watching kids or your job just takes it out of you. Jay and I have had some interesting chats on our hikes plus its gorgeous scenery. We also have wonderful places to hike in our neck of the woods. Do you have a favorite hiking place?
    Wilderness Presidential Resort

  • Visit Downtown - This is a great place to go for a walk and look at the decorations, there are some quaint shops and restaurants downtown. You can find some gems in your home downtown. We'd love to know where your favorite downtown is located.
Rising Sun Tavern Fredericksburg, VA
  • Watch a Movie at Home - When watching a movie at home, I try and have all the fun things that go along with it, such as dollar store boxed candy and lots of popcorn along with our favorite drinks. October is a great time to watch horror flicks if you dare. It's not a horror film but Sleepy Hollow is a favorite of ours. Another plus to watching movies at home, you can cuddle up with each other. Who doesn't like cuddling?

  • Play a Game - We found this cool game called Farkle which is a dice game. My husband is a little competitive and he likes this game because you keep score. I actually bought it at the Dollar Tree but if you can't find it there, you can find it on Amazon. It's a hoot of a game! Do you have a favorite game you like to play?

  • Apple Picking - we have not done this date yet and I think we will this year. I love apples and Jay's favorite pie is apple pie. Sounds like a plan!
  • Build a Fire - We have been enjoying our firepit all year. This can be a nice time to sip on a beer, wine, or something hot and maybe make some s'mores. I love Pumpkin Spice anything and a hot PS tea in my Tervis sure hits the spot. Our chairs are far apart in our firepit area, maybe we should sit closer. What do you think?

We hope you enjoyed this week's blog post. Please share with us the fun dates you have during the autumnal season. Keep the spark alive!

Stay safe and healthy,

Kelly

SSS stay at Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center

Our annual sisters weekend has come and gone. It really wasn't long enough but we all had to get back to work and our homes.

We decided to go to Roanoke because one of us, Cathy, HAD to go to Black Dog Salvage. If you aren't familiar with them, they have a TV show on the DIY network. More to come on that visit, STAY TUNED.

My job was to review the hotel. Upon entering the parking lot, all I could say was WOW!! What a majestic building. Just look at it!

We were greeted by a gracious young lady at the front desk where she checked us in and treated us to the delicious chocolate chip cookies DoubleTree is famous for. We also received a coffee mug featuring the Black Dog Salvage for signing up for the tour, of course, Cathy took the mug ;)
Our room was nice with 2 double beds, flat screen TV, a desk , a coffee bar and FREE Wi-Fi. Our room had a view of the front entrance where we witnessed, one evening, a young couple receiving their send off in a Rolls Royce after their wedding. That was a nice surprise.

We were given access to the Executive Lounge for the continental breakfast and appetizers in the evening. We made our way there Friday evening and happen to be the most obnoxious people in the room. Go figure, right? You had to be there. Anyway, the concierge was an older gentlemen, Charlie, that was happy to serve us and thought we had the whole room laughing. I think he was being nice but he seemed to delight in the fact we came back to the lounge on Saturday evening. He wanted our email address so he could correspond with the SSS. He actually sent us a funny video to watch. He was awesome!! Everyone treated us like the royalty we think we are (hehe).

It was a grand hotel, here's a link for more information Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center

Cathy had T-shirts made for us. Thank you Cathy!! So here were are...

How long does it take to open a bottle of wine? Oh, about 20 minutes. I had bought a bottle of Middle Sister Wine to share on our trip. I used a corkscrew but wasn't strong enough to get it out. We eventually all tried to get that dang cork out of the bottle and succeeded, FINALLY. Sweet & Sassy like the bottle said, it was DELICIOUS! We didn't drink the whole bottle. WHAT? Yep that's right we didn't but Rhonda took the rest home, just because it has Middle Sister on the bottle she thought she should take it home.

Well, that's all I have for now. I will be reviewing, later on,  the Fork in the Alley, a restaurant we had lunch. And there will be more reviews on other things we did on our trip.

Until next time!!

Christmas Windows

If your looing for something to do one evening, take a stroll Downtown Fredericksburg, VA. The old town shops have wonderful displays of Christmas decorated windows.

My husband and I took a stroll Wednesday evening, taking advantage of the beautiful weather. It's a cheap date night if you are stretching your dollars.

BTW, they are having a contest WINDOW WONDERLAND, so gather your family, solve the riddle, and enter your responses PLUS the top three favorite decorated storefronts and you could win $1,000 CASH or one of many other prizes totaling over $3,000! http://www.visitfred.com/window-wonderland

If you don't live in the area, take advantage of your small town. They would love your support this holiday season and during the year.

Enjoy a few of the windows I photographed, maybe this will spur you on for a stroll this Christmas.

Kelly's Review of FoodE

Hi everyone! Welcome to our blog. We trying this blogging thing out and hope to inform you and maybe even give you a chuckle now and then.

Cathy has already given her two cents of the FoodE restaurant in Fredericksburg, VA.
I'm going to way in with my review.

When we first arrived around 11:40am on a Friday, we traveled down this alley that was decorated with hanging bottles filled with what looked like glow liquid, I'm sure it would look cool when dining in the evening. There were tables decked out with faux grass and artwork of Virginia with moss, oh and a antique bicycle covered in moss. I just thought that was out of this world creative.

The kitchen is upstairs so when you arrive you see people coming from the entrance and going up the stairs with dishes and some coming down the stairs with food. It seemed a little dangerous to me but I guess it's working for them.

We entered the restaurant and the gracious young women working gave us each a paper menu and as we stood in line we each decided what to order. I ordered the Turkey Club and the tomato basil soup with their freshed brewed sweet iced tea.

As soon as we ordered. a table came available and we were seated right away. The décor was simple, the walls were filled with canvas artwork of downtown Fredericksburg. The tables were all different heights and they had a leather couch and chairs to sit while waiting for a table. The restaurant is small but the place was booming with customers. Obviously that says a lot about their establishment. It was a bit loud with chatter, we could hardly hear ourselves talk.

Our meals came in a timely manner. The turkey club was filled all-natural roast turkey breast sliced thin and served three-high on locally-baked brioche bread with honey mustard aioli, all-natural
lettuce, sliced cheddar cheese and thick sliced bacon. served with a side of our creamy tomato-chevre soup. I was a little disappointed in the bacon, it was overcooked and hard to eat. But overall the sandwich was delicious. The soup had texture and a little tart which I liked immensely. The fresh brewed sweet tea was very southern, was served in a canning jar. We were able to get refills on our own.

Cathy had mentioned that the bathrooms weren't labeled, we noticed people standing in line, men and women. I didn't care that it was unisex but Cathy seemed to be disgruntled about it.

Also the food is locally and organically grown which I'm thrilled with because I live in the area and believe in supporting our local businesses.

I would highly recommend FoodE, try them out when in you're in town.

By the way it was Rhonda's birthday and she treated us to lunch, how about that? She had gift certificate to dine there so I don't feel so bad, hehe.
