Sweet Easter Nest Donuts Recipe

These Sweet Easter Nest Donuts are extremely cute and delicious. They take no time to make and are simply adorable.

The original recipe comes from Country Crock and after looking at the recipe I decided I would try it with a cake mix. You need a donut pan or maker, obviously, to make these donuts. I purchased a set of silicone donut molds on Amazon. Once upon a time, I had an electric donut maker and I have no idea what I did with it, probably donated it to Goodwill.

The original recipe makes 6 servings but since I was using a cake mix, it made 2 dozen. You can also use a small box of cake mix if you don't want to make as many. In our household, donuts do not last long.

Let's get started making donuts!

Ingredients:
Supermoist Vanilla Cake Mix or your favorite cake mix
    1 C of water
    1/2 C vegetable oil
    3 eggs

Chocolate Glaze:
    8 oz bittersweet chocolate chips
    2 T light corn syrup
1 Stick of butter, hot and melted
    1/2 t kosher salt

Topping
    3 C sweetened shredded coconut

Instruction:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Brush or spray the donut pan with butter or non-stick spray.

  2. Make the cake mix according to box instructions.
  3. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until the donut springs back when gently poked. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes before overturning the donuts onto a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.

  4. Toast the coconut on a cookie sheet tray after baking the donuts.

  5. Once the donuts are cool, prepare the glaze. Combine the chocolate chips and corn syrup in a heat-proof bowl. Microwave it at 30-second intervals. Stirring until melted. Add the hot melted butter and salt, stir until completely smooth. Let sit for 5 -10 minutes to cool and thicken a bit.

  6. Dip the donuts in the glaze then dip them in the coconut.
  7. Place your chocolate eggs in the middle.

***NOTE - fill the donut pan cavities 3/4 full because you will get a well rounded donut. Also, if you let them set up, the glaze will harden.***

We hope you enjoyed this Easter Nest Donut recipe. Do you make donuts? How do you make them with an appliance or a donut pan? Or do you make yeast donuts and fry them? Please comment below.

Happy Easter everyone,
Kelly

Cathy and Momma Sassy try BLT DEVILED EGGS

BLT DEVILED EGGS

Mom  and I decided to do something different and thought deviled eggs was a good one.

We had all ingredients so thought we would give it a try.

INGREDIENTS

1 dozen hard-boiled eggs peeled

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon honey mustard -- we made our own

4 strips candied bacon diced small -- we used plain bacon

2 handfuls small cherry tomatoes quartered

1 handful basil leaves chopped -- we used dried basil

Chili powder to dust

We had the ingredients, adjusted the recipe for 3 eggs,  boiled the eggs and cooked bacon in microwave.

Funny story! Mom dumped the bacon on the paper towel. I said, "Make it nice." She shook her head. I said, "We are on Social media you know!" She tried to straighten it up. LOL!

INSTRUCTIONS

Slice each egg in half lengthwise and remove the yolk. Put all the yolks in a small mixing bowl and all the whites on a platter.

Add mayo and honey mustard to the yolks and mix until well combined and sort of fluffy.

Note: We advise adding honey mustard first then the mayo.

Fold in the diced bacon, tomatoes, and basil (reserving a little of the basil for a garnish)

Spoon filling into the centers of the whites. Garnish with basil and dust with chili powder.

After we mixed it together, we decided it is best to ad the honey mustard first and adjust the mayo after.  Too wet for us.

Not too pretty but tasted good. I am not a fan of the sweet deviled egg. Next time, I will leave the honey out of it and just used plain mustard.

Try it sometime and see what you think.

Favorite Crockpot Soup Recipes

We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to 2021. Hopefully, the next year will bring us good health and happiness.

This post is all about that crockpot we have that rarely gets used. I honestly use mine quite often especially when I have a busy day coming up. Here are just a few of my favorite crockpot soup recipes that you may like to try in the near future. Winter is here and soup is comfort food, in my opinion.

First up is an all-time favorite... CrockPot Creamy Chicken and Rice soup. This recipe comes from Jamie Cooks It Up.

Crock Pot Creamy Chicken and Rice Soup

Time: 10 min prep + 6-8 hours cooking
Yield: 10 servings
Recipe from Jamie Cooks It Up!

1 C carrots, chopped
1 C celery, chopped
1 medium-sized onion, chopped
10 C water
8 chicken bullion cubes (or 8 t bullion granules)
salt and pepper
1 t parsley
1 bay leaf
1 t thyme
2 chicken breasts
2 chicken thighs
1 C rice (I use long grain)
1 (10 ounce) can cream of chicken soup

1. Chop up 1 cup of carrots, one cup celery and 1 onion.
2. Add them to a 6-7 quart crock pot.
3. Pour 10 cups of water over the veggies.
4. Add 8 chicken bullion cubes or 8 teaspoons bullion granules.
5. Add a bit of salt and pepper, 1 teaspoon parsley, 1 bay leaf and 1 teaspoon thyme.
6. Add 2 thawed chicken breasts and 2 thawed chicken thighs.
7. Cover your crock pot and cook on high for 5 hours, or low for 7 hours.
8. Remove the chicken from the crock pot and shred it up with two forks.
9. Add 1 cup of uncooked rice and the shredded chicken to the crock pot.
10. Put the lid back on and cook on high for 1 hour, or until the rice is tender.
11. Add one can of cream of chicken soup. Give it a nice stir to combine. Put the lid back on and allow the cream soup to heat up, should only take 10 minutes or so.

Serve and enjoy!

Thanks to Rhonda for baking us girls some cookies, Baker House Creations German Chocolate Cookies to be exact. We thoroughly loved them. They were moist, with lots of coconut, dark chocolate and nuts. She bought them at Aldi, if you are interested. They may or may not have them, as Aldi doesn't always carry items throughout the year.

Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies - Mmmm Good

This is Kelly and I'm a Pinterest addict. I couldn't help myself, I had to confess :)

My family just loves carrot cake and when I found this recipe for these Carrot Cake Cookie Sandwiches on Pinterest, I had to make them.

They have a few ingredients and if you'd rather make them from scratch, just use your own oatmeal & raisin cookie recipe and add some carrots to the batter. They are delicious!!

Here is a picture of the cookies I made and the Pinterest cookies. I've seen those pictures of the before and after of a cake or craft item and the after is no where close to the actual idea. I don't think I did half bad, if I must so say myself :)

Make them and I guarantee you'll love them!! ENJOY!!
