Wondering What To Do With All Those Zucchinis?

****UDPATED 8/5/23****

I have a small garden and zucchini is part of that garden. I’m not sure what happened but when it started producing I only harvested 2 zucchinis. Then all of a sudden it started popping out a bunch and I’m thankful.

Did you know zucchini grows about 2” a day? Zucchini plants produce a lot of fruit and what do you do with them all? Here are some suggestions along with several of my favorite recipes.
  1. Bake Bread - I adore zucchini bread. It’s moist, sweet, and freezes well. Try this recipe: Zucchini Bread from Dash of Sanity.

  2. Serve It as a Side Dish - Baked Parmesan Zucchini from Damn Delicious are crispy and super delicious.
  3. Make Cupcakes - Sweet and delectable, especially with the caramel icing YUMM!! Zucchini Cupcakes from Taste of Home.

  4. Use It in Place of Pasta - Fun and a great alternative to pasta ITALIAN ZUCCHINI NOODLES RECIPE WITH GARLIC AND TOMATO  from Best Recipe Box.

  5. Freeze It - Did you know you can freeze zucchini? Here’s a great website to help you with 5 different ways. I’ve successfully frozen zucchini and you can too.  Hop on over to this website to find out How to Freeze Zucchini.

  6. Give It Away - it’s nice to be able to share our surplus of veggies. Plus, there’s nothing like fresh fruit & vegetables right of the garden.

I hope you can enjoy the fresh off-the-vine produce. Try these recipes and if you have some favorite recipes using zucchini, share in the comments.

Keep it Sassy,
Kelly

10 Morning Habits to Start Off Your Day

I have a morning routine and if I deviate from that routine, my day is all out of sorts. Also, if you are someone that deals with depression and/or anxiety, a routine could make a noticeable difference in your mental health. Any therapist will tell you the many benefits of starting your day this way.

When we make a morning routine part of our day, we develop habits that soon feel second nature. So let's talk about some of the things you might want to add to your morning routine. Everyone's morning routine will be different, so the suggestions on this list are meant to be a starting point and happen to be my morning routine. Experiment what works for you, and remember the key is consistency.

1. Put off checking your phone. This is a hard one because we all seem to addicted to our cell phones or tablets. Plus the information we see first thing in the morning can cause stress. Why not delay this action a bit? It's better to maintain a general level of calm as long as you can. It's better for our bodies and emotional systems to reduce stress for the day. Also, reaching for your phone first thing is a quick way to derail your whole morning routine.

2. Stretch your body. At my age, doing a stretch first thing helps me get out the kinks and help my body move better. I'm not saying do a full exercise routine, just enough stretching to make your body limber and move better in the morning.

3. Drink some water.  We cannot survive without water. The benefits of drinking water are well documented. You know you should be hydrating throughout the day, but a glass of water in the morning kind of gets the whole process going. I drink a cup of water right after going to the bathroom. It's refreshing and helps things get going in your body, if you know what I mean.

4. Meditate. In my morning routine, after the first few items above and getting a cup of coffee, I take time to read the Bible and pray. I can't tell you how important this time is for me. If I skip this, my day is completely out of whack. I believe the Lord gives me the fuel for the day when I spend it with Him. Just taking a moment to be thankful will help you with your day.

5. Make your bed. This is something I've always done. If you make your bed every morning, your space feels clean and less cluttered. I love this quote from retired Navy admiral William H. McRaven, “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”

6. Practice a “getting ready” routine.  Most of us have a list of things we do every morning to prepare for the day (you know, getting dressed, brushing our teeth, etc.), but you might not have it down to an exact order yet. Maybe sometimes you jump straight from the shower to doing your hair while other days you lounge around in your towel scrolling through the morning news. You can save yourself from constantly having to ask yourself, “Okay, what next?” by solidifying a step-by-step process.

7. Wash your face. A regular skin-care routine is necessary for healthy skin and it wakes you up. I splash cold water on my face, use a Neutrogena Oil- and Alcohol-Free Facial Toner to help with closing pores, then a SPF moisturizer Olay Total Effects 7 Benefits. It can be as easy and you want it to be. Plus who doesn't love a little pampering everyday?

8. Write or review your daily to-do list. I have a notepad app on my phone and use it daily to keep track of things I need to do during the day. When you take time to write out a game plan for the day, you are setting yourself up for a great day. I may not get everything done but when I do accomplish a task I mark it off and have a feeling of accomplishment. A great quote from Greg McKeown, “When we don't purposely and deliberately choose where to focus our energies and time, other people—our bosses, our colleagues, our clients, and even our families—will choose for us, and before long we’ll have lost sight of everything that is meaningful and important.”

9. Eat a healthy breakfast. The most important meal of the day is breakfast. Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done and helps you focus at work or at school. Those are just a few reasons why it’s the most important meal of the day. Skipping the morning meal can throw off your body’s rhythm of fasting and eating. When you wake up, the blood sugar your body needs to make your muscles and brain work their best is usually low. Breakfast helps replenish it. If your body doesn’t get that fuel from food, you may feel zapped of energy -- and you'll be more likely to overeat later in the day. Breakfast also gives you a chance to get in some vitamins and nutrients from healthy foods like dairy, grains, and fruits. If you don’t eat it, you aren’t likely to get all of the nutrients your body needs.

10. Exercise. Not everyone has the luxury of getting exercise first thing in the morning but for me, after eating a healthy breakfast I get a walk in with my hubby, pup and sometimes grandson. I have a goal of 10,000 steps a day and starting it off with a long walk helps me to keep moving through the day. I have the Fitbit Versa to keep me on track with my steps. I encourage you to keep moving.

I hope this helps you in your daily routine. Remember, consistency is the key!

We would love to hear what your morning consists of and just maybe we can be of some support for each other to stay motivated, strong and healthy.

Love and best wishes,
Kelly

Product Review Sensitivity Toothpaste Comparison - Sensodyne Pronamel vs Sensitive from Dollar Tree

Everyone uses toothpaste of some kind (at least I hope so) and most people have a preference. I thought, what would it hurt to try the Dollar Tree brand of sensitive toothpaste and if it worked I would save a few dollars a month on toothpaste.

I bought the Sensitive Extreme (SE) from the Dollar Tree and the Sensodyne Pronamel Repair (SPR) from Walmart. Here are my thoughts:
  • Consistency: the SE toothpaste was a little runny in consistency compared to SPR.
  • Taste: the SE tasted funky and not like a toothpaste should taste. The SPR has a pleasant minty taste.
  • Whitens: I’m not so sure SE whitens like it states, I only used it for a couple of weeks. And did not notice a difference. I believe SPR keeps my teeth a bit whiter than if I use a toothpaste without whitener.
  • Sensitivity: My sensitivity to cold came back in a day or two after using SE where as the SPR helps with the sensitivity issue.
  • Price: Obviously the SE toothpaste is $1 and the SPR runs around $6. Is it worth spending several more dollars on SPR? I would say a definite YES!!
I hope this helps when it comes to shopping for toothpaste.

We'd love to know if you've tried these products and if you liked them or not.
Comment and share!!

Love and Best Wishes,
Kelly

Jhirmack Silver Brightening Ageless Shampoo Review

Do you have white/silver hair like us three sisters? I've been using Jhirmack Silver Brightening Ageless Shampoo for sometime now and would highly recommend it for your white, silver or gray hair.
This color-safe formula boosts texture & softness while helping to neutralize unwanted yellow hues and reduce brassiness. Green Tea Extract and Folic Acid strengthen and condition, while CoQ10 protects from styling damage and environmental stressors to keep hair strong & healthy. Macadamia Nut Oil moisturizes rough, limp hair (improving elasticity) without leaving your scalp greasy. The Jhirmack Silver Hair Care regimen is developed for all shades of silver, blonde and gray hair; from cleansing to conditioning. Our innovative & effective violet pigment in all formulas work to neutralize unwanted yellow and orange tones, aiding in the reduction of brassiness and helps to brighten silver/blonde hair.

Here's my take on the shampoo:

  • Smell: It has a nice fruit scent.
  • Look & feel: it looks silvery / purple and feels thick and silky.
  • How it works: Like most purple shampoos, this works very subtly, so do not expect to completely "tone" brassy hair in one wash. You will need to use often to keep brassy/ yellow tones down. I have naturally white hair and use this once or twice a week without issue. The purple can take very quickly if you leave it stay on your hair very long before rinsing. I noticed in that situation, you should use it less often because your hair will turn purple.
  • Price: This brand is the MOST affordable purple shampoo on the market. I purchased it originally on Amazon but recently found it at Target for a great price.
We'd love to hear from you about what hair care you use for your silver locks!! Let us know in the comments!

10 Great Picnic Tips & Hacks

****UPDATED 8/5/23/****

Picnic season is a favorite of our family. Whether it be a quick lunch in the park or a family gathering, it's always fun. You can have a picnic just about anywhere, at the beach, the park, in the back of your car with the trunk open, or in your very own backyard. We all can use some help on how to have a picnic go smoothly. Follow these helpful tips and enjoy the great outdoors!

1. Grab 'n Go Push the bottom of a large chip bag upwards inside itself to turn it instantly into the perfect snack bowl.

2. Easy Sippin’ - Worry no more about losing your straw to the wind or into your drink. Instead, stick your straw securely through the cap of your soda or drink can.

3. Keep Your Blanket Dry - Stick a shower curtain under your picnic blanket to ensure that no one has a damp seat from the grass!

4. Make Your Own Speakers - Place your phone into a glass to stream music. The cup will amplify the music like a speaker!

5. Cupcake Liners Aren’t Just for Cupcakes - Place a cupcake liner over your glass to keep the bugs at bay!

6. Prevent Apples from Turning Brown - If you’re a fan of sliced apples and looking to prep them ahead of time, keep them from turning brown by holding the slices together with a hair tie or rubber band.

7. Keep Your Salads Fresh - Store your salad in a glass canning jar, keeping the dressing at the bottom to prevent your salad from getting soggy. Stir when it’s time to enjoy!

8. Easy Salt & Pepper Shakers - Don't throw those mint containers away. Store salt and pepper in empty mint containers for easy pouring.

9. Prevent Sticky Hands - another use for those cupcake wrappersPlace a cupcake liner at the base of your popsicle to prevent dripping, keeping your hands free of a sticky mess!

10. Frozen Water Bottles - Freeze water bottles ahead of time, using them as the “ice packs” for your picnic lunch!

What do you think about these tips? Have you any tips or hints to share? We would love to hear from you!

Keep it Sassy,
Kelly
