One of our posts on Facebook was this photo:

  • All human beings could love one another.
  • I was skinny!
  • I wish I had money left over after I pay my bills.
  • I wish the worlds people would see that it is WE not US versus THEM. WE are all in this together and greed and war are stupid.
  • there was a cure for cancer .
  • I had more wine!
So if you could complete this sentence, what would your wish be? Comment below and share your wish.

Uplifting Story: Trash Man Creates Free Library with Books Found in Garbage

We are bombarded with bad news all day long from most network news shows. We don't know about you but we are tired of the hatefulness we see day in and day out. So, we are going to make it our mission to bring you uplifting stories from around the world that have touched our hearts.
This story actually came from GoodNewsNetwork.org.

There is a garbage man in Bogota, Columbia who began salvaging books that people where throwing out. He hated to see them in the trash bins so he started his own library in his neighborhood.

When he decided to rescue the books from the trash, it created a "snowball effect" that inspired him to continue saving discarded literature.

Jose Gutierrez has since collected over 20,000 books for his FREE library. He appropriately named the library "Strength of Words". He opens up his home to the children in his community on the weekends. He doesn't limit his book-lending to children, he has sent books to FARC revels who are preparing to assimilate into civilian life.

For more information on this awesome story go to Good News Network.

Check out our video about the TRASHMAN...

HOW TO: Take care of Blueberries

It's blueberry season and oh how we love to eat them. There are a couple of things you need to know:
1. How to store blueberries so they don't turn moldy.
2. How to make a delicious dessert using blueberries.

Here are some helpful tips to ensure your blueberries stay fresh:
1. Check for mold before you buy them. Mold spreads quickly when they are in close contact. One bad blueberry can make the whole bunch bad.
2. Don't rinse unless you have to. The key is to keep them dry in storage. Rinse what you will use or at least let them dry before putting them back in the refrigerator.
3. Make sure you blueberries are dry. If you've rinsed them, just make sure you use a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture and the air circulation will deter mold.
4. Refrigerate your blueberries. Make sure they get air, so don't put them in the crisper. Blueberries will stay good for up to a week when stored this way.
5. Freeze them if they seem overripe. Spread the blueberries on a rimmed baking sheet, let them firm up in the freezer, then transfer them into a resealable plastic bag and pop them back in the freezer. They will keep for quite a few months, which means you can make all kinds of desserts later in the year.

Kelly makes the most delicious blueberry sorbet. Here's the recipe she uses from Simply Recipes - Blueberry Sorbet.

July 4th 2017 - Let's Party!!! Drinkie Drinkie!!

It’s time for fireworks, hot dogs, flags and fun facts about our country and Independence Day. We girls also think it's time for some fun drinks!! Watch the video below and you'll understand what we're talking about.

The Fourth of July marks our country’s birthday. On this day in 1776, the members of the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, adopting the final draft of the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming our sovereignty from Great Britain.
There are many ways Americans commonly choose to celebrate this holiday – from family-friendly festivals, fireworks and parades to feasting on traditional foods like hot dogs and barbecue.

Here are a 10 interesting things you may or may not already know about the 4th of July:
  1. Initially adopted by Congress on July 2, 1776, the revised version of the Declaration of Independence was not adopted until two days later.
  2. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on a "laptop," a kind of writing desk that could fit on one's lap.
  3. One of the United States’ patriotic songs, “Yankee Doodle” was originally sung by British military officers prior to the Revolution as a means to mock the disorganized American colonists who fought alongside them during the French and Indian Wars.
  4. To avoid cracking it, the Liberty Bell has not been rung since 1846. To mark the quintessential day, every fourth of July it is symbolically tapped 13 times.
  5. Americans consume about 155 million hot dogs on Independence Day alone; it is the biggest hot dog holiday of the year.
  6. The country’s 30th president, Calvin Coolidge, was born on Independence Day in 1872.
  7. In July 1776, the estimated number of people living in the newly independent nation was 2.5 million.  According to the U.S. and World Population Clock, the nation’s estimated population in July 2017 will be 325.3 million.
  8. Three U.S. Presidents, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, died on July 4th; Adams and Jefferson died within hours of each other in 1826 while Monroe died in 1831.
  9. The “Star Spangled Banner” was written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812 and not decreed the official national anthem of the United States until 1931.
  10. In 1954, the words ‘under God’ were added to the Pledge of Allegiance.
How do you and your family celebrate the 4th of July? Have any additional fun historical facts to add?
